News - League of Legends: Mel Medard - that's what the newest character in the game can do

Riot Games has introduced the first new character of 2025 in League of Legends and shows Mel Medarda's abilities in detail.

The character Mel Medarda, known from the Netflix hit series "Arcane", is the first new character for the long-running MOBA series League of Legends in the still young year of 2025. In keeping with the Noxus season, the Noxian magician and heiress to the most powerful family in Noxus will in future be the Make the gap unsafe in mid lane and as a support.

Mel's backstory: After an encounter with the mysterious organization the Black Rose, Mel realizes the extent to which her mother Ambessa has deceived her. For the first time, she is faced with a challenge that she is potentially not up to. With her newly awakened magical powers, she sails to her homeland to look for answers - and although many of her opponents in Noxus will try to dim Mel's light, her soul remains unbroken.

Her abilities include “rejection,” which brings a new game mechanic to the title. Mel can protect herself with a barrier and use this to throw projectiles back at the attacker. Incidentally, their abilities are based on the “Overwhelm” effect, which continues to increase and thus causes more damage and can even execute opponents.

Mel's complete skill set reads as follows:

  • Passive – Searing Brilliance-Every time Mel uses an ability, she gains three bonus projectiles on her next attack, up to a maximum of nine.

When Mel deals damage with an ability or attack, she triggers Overwhelm. The damage is cumulatively increased to execute the opponent. When an enemy has taken enough damage from Overwhelm to be killed, the stacks are consumed and the target is executed.

  • Q – Radiant Volley- Mel fires a barrage of projectiles that explode in the targeted area, dealing repeated damage to enemies in the area of effect.

  • W – Rejection- Mel gains movement speed, creates a barrier around himself that reflects enemy projectiles at the attacker and prevents damage.

  • E – Sun Shackles- Mel fires a glowing orb that locks enemies in the center. In the outer area it causes damage over time and slowing.

  • R – Golden Eclipse- Mel attacks all enemies marked with Overwhelm regardless of their range, dealing additional damage with each stack of Overwhelm.

Higher ranks of Golden Eclipse increase the damage of Overwhelm.

In general, Riot Games sees the magician as a champion who is characterized by a beginner-friendly play style. However, the more familiar you are with Mel's abilities, the more potential this should develop.
