id Software has provided the latest part of the DOOM series with fresh impressions and a release date. The previous rumors should be confirmed!

Due to a leak, a supposed release date for the new shooter DOOM: The Dark Ages has leaked out in the last few days - and this leak should now actually be confirmed. As part of the Xbox Developer_Direct yesterday evening, id Software presented the new series part in more detail and also officially confirmed the release date.

So this means for you: get out your calendar and red pen! Then you can mark May 15, 2025, because on that day DOOM: The Dark Ages will be released for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is a prequel to the reboot DOOM released in 2016 and, according to the creators, is said to be the franchise's most ambitious project to date. The new action-adventure is built around three pillars, which the creators will go into in more detail: combat, exploration and story.

You slip into the role of a slayer and - typical of the series - explore a dark fantasy and sci-fi world. When it comes to the combat system, you have melee abilities at your disposal, just like other weapons; In addition, the classic DOOM maneuver strafing is celebrating a comeback. New weapons, a new skill tree, larger demon opponents and more round off this section with fresh input.

As for the exploration aspect, you can look forward to a mysterious world from the Slayer's past, which is characterized and surrounded by dark forests and towering buildings, dangerous dungeons and ancient battlefields. The new setting is intended to fuse the hellscapes typical of the series with a medieval touch. In DOOM: The Dark Ages you also get significantly more freedom, because the levels in the shooter are much less linear.

As far as the last core aspect, the story, is concerned, it should be advanced through cutscenes in order to develop its maximum effect. The main plot is currently being kept under wraps, but in addition to old allies and villains, there will also be many new characters. The setting also ties in directly with the Slayer's testament from DOOM, released in 2016, and serves as an origin story for the previous two series parts.
