The second season of the Netflix series Arcane recently started and is once again delighting fans. But their production also cost a lot of money. Marc Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games and Chief Product Officer of League of Legends, now explained in more detail why this is the case.
Whether you have something to do with the MOBA super hitstart or not, the Netflix seriesyou should still look. Not only is it fantastically animated and offers a fantastic soundtrack, the story about the sisters Vi and Jinx also captivates with emotional and gripping moments.
However, Riot Games also cost a lot to produce Arcane. It was recently announced that the studio spent a total of $250 million on the production of the 18 episodes of both seasons.
On Reddit, Marc Merrill, co-founder of the studio and Chief Product Officer of League of Legends, now explained in more detail where the money went. First of all, he makes it clear that all the discussions about the high production costs are silly for him. The cost per minute was only a quarter or a third of what it would cost at Pixar or Illumination, for example.
According to him, the market for high-quality, adult-oriented animation didn't even exist before Arcane. That's why it's so hard for Hollywood to even imagine why Riot Games decided to produce it in the first place.
According to Merrill, much of the budget goes toward the talent involved. The animations of the characters alone make up around 80 percent of the total volume, as every movement is animated frame by frame and by hand.
He also addresses the criticism of many fans that it is over after two seasons. After all, there had been internal communication in advance in which there was talk of five seasons. According to him, it was just a matter of the immense budget that was released. This had to be put aside in order to tell the story of Vi and Jinx with the necessary quality.
The second trailer for season 2 of the hit series “Arcane” based on League of Legends was released called “Come Play”.
