The display problems with PSSR on the PS5 Pro continue to show no end. Alan Wake 2 also now has an off switch until other solutions are available.
As pleasing as upscaler technology may be for the PS5 Pro, it is clearly still in its infancy and causes more frustration than joy in some games.
Ubisoft recently added an option to deactivate PSSR in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Bloober Team is reportedly planning to do without PSSR completely in the Silent Hill 2 remake and replace it with TSR. Now Remedy Entertainment has also followed suit with Alan Wake 2.
With a new update to the action-adventure, an option to switch off PSSR has also been added to avoid display problems.
There are also some optimizations for the PS5 Pro. A balanced mode for 120Hz displays was integrated, which targets the resolution of the performance mode with the graphics settings of the quality mode and was optimized for a refresh rate of 40fps. Additionally, Performance mode receives some fine-tuning for more consistent performance.
Here are the patch notes in detail:
Improvements and additions
[PS5 Pro] Added a new “Balanced” graphics mode. This mode requires compatible displays that can achieve a 120Hz refresh rate. The Balanced mode combines PS5 Pro Quality mode settings including raytracing with Performance mode resolution. This mode targets 40fps.
[PS5 Pro] Slightly adjusted visual settings of the Performance mode to achieve a more consistent framerate.
[PS5 Pro] Quality and Balanced mode: Adjusted Raytracing settings to achieve a less noisy image.
[PS5 Pro] Added an option to toggle PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) On/Off.
