Stable market leader: Shortly before the end, Windows 10 comes out trumps again

Windows 10 support is ongoing. Home users also have the option to extend support, but only for one year.

In recent months, Windows 10's market share has fallen accordingly, primarily in favor of Windows 11.

According to the analysis service StatCounter, the trend reversed in November.

Im Detail:

  • Windows 10's market share rose by around one percent in November.
  • Windows 11 lost market share during the period.

But be careful:StatCounter uses data from over 1.5 million websites. As a result, the statistics may be inaccurate.

For November 2024 it looks like this:

  • According to StatCounter, Windows 10's market share is almost 62 percent of all Windows PCs.
  • Windows 11 follows with a market share of almost 36 percent.
  • The remaining percent is shared by Windows 7, Windows 8 and other versions such as Windows XP.

Windows 11 dominates on Steam

On Steama different picture emerges. Here, Windows 11 managed to jump over the important 50 percent mark in November. Windows 10 follows with around 43 percent.

There are several attempts to explain the difference between the statistics of the two services:

  • Gamers are more interested in keeping the PC up to date.
  • Windows 11 offers exclusive features for gamers.

The transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is slow

Since the all-time high in April 2024, Windows 10 has lost around one percent of market share per month. The trend was temporarily halted last month, according to StatCounter.

Windows 11 managed to expand market share during this time. At around 35 percent, Microsoft's latest operating system is a full 25 percent behind Windows 10.

Microsoft is trying to convince Windows 10 users of Windows 11 with campaigns and requests to switch. According to analysts atCanalys ResearchUp to 240 million Windows 10 PCs could be incompatible with Windows 11.

Even though it is possible to install Windows 11 on almost all PCs with Windows 10, this option will not be available to most due to technical hurdles.

Now the question is: Do you still use a PC with Windows 10? What is your plan for the end of support next year? Feel free to write us a comment.
