New controller for PC and Xbox: If he still does one thing really well, it will be perfect for me

I've never seen such a controller - but it could be perfect for me.

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot was able to arouse my interest immediately: With a switch on the back, the standard twin stick layout can be replaced with a fight layout.

Is that the perfect controller for fans of 2D games and fighting games? Perhaps. But even though I am quite enthusiastic, I still have a worry.

Price and availability

What makes the Stealth Pivot so special?

At first glance, the Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot looks normal - at least almost. The design is very "unique" and somehow reminds me of sci-fi games like Dead Space.

I'm not a big fan of appearance now, but that is not particularly important to me either.

What makes the stealth pivot so special is that the layout can be changed in no time.

  • First you can get the analog sticks flat with a rotary mechanism. It does not matter whether you turn the sticks against or clockwise.
  • Then you solve two lock switches on the back.
  • The two controller modules can then be rotated by 180 degrees to reveal a new layout with six face buttons and a D-pad-perfect for 2D games and fighting games.
  • The two lock switches are closed on the back and you are ready.
  • Every change takes about five seconds.

On the left you can see the fighting game layout. On the right the standard with two analog sticks.

The Stealth Pivot also has other features that are known from Premium controllers:

  • Hall effect analogous sticks that have better resistance to Drift
  • Physical trigger stops for fast activation of L2 and R2
  • Built -in screen for displaying important information such as battery level or profiles
  • Five savable profiles
  • Two additional buttons on the back
  • 3.5mm combo clinke
  • Wireless connection via 2.4 GHz receiver
  • About 20 hours of battery life

How does it play with it?

Shooter and action games:The controller is pretty wide, but is very good in my hands. The analog sticks have a little too little resistance for my taste, which makes precise goals more difficult-at least for me.

  • A »Pro Aim« feature can remedy this. You can put the function on a button and as long as it is held down, the sensitivity can be reduced.
  • Thanks to the trigger stops, L2 and R2 can be activated very quickly.

The Stealth Pivot is a good all -rounder with solid controls and buttons. If you primarily play shooters and action games, there are better options. With the pivot you cannot change the stick height or the stick resistance.

Only two assignable buttons on the back could not meet for some. Since I don't play competitive shooters, the equipment is enough for me.

2D games and fighting games:The Stealth Pivot was almost completely convincing me in this area. Although the D-Pad has a disc shape that I am not the biggest fan of, it is precise and tactile. You can feel and hear when one of the eight directions is triggered.

  • InI was able to carry out heavy combinations without any problems or perform complex techniques such as backdash-cancelling or wave dashing. I find the two additional buttons for L3 and R3 on the left particularly practical. I can put additional shortcuts on this, such as activate Heat in Tekken at the push of a button or super-moves incarry out.
  • The six buttons on the right are very easy to reach with thumb or the other fingers-if you put the controller on the lap or table like an arcade controller.
  • Wireless fight pads or arcade controllers are still a rarity today and it is great to have a single controller for several genres. Thanks to the 2.4 GHz connection, the input talent is low or not noticeable. However, you have to use a cable on Xbox consoles.

Also 2D games likeorHave fun with the Stealth Pivot. The D-Pad on the fighting game layout is precisely enough for this. However, the other on the stick layout is too spongy.

There is a concern

The rotary mechanism of the controller modules worries me a little. The more moving parts a controller has, the higher the risk of future defects. When operating the D pad on the fighting game layout, the module already gives up about a millimeter.

But as long as this controller works, as it should, it could be a perfect all-round controller for fighting game fans like me.

My first conclusion

Duy Linh Dinh:The Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot could be the perfect all-rounder for fighting game and 2D fans who do not want to switch between two different controllers for different genres.

In addition to the excellent fighting game layout, he also has useful controller features, which can also be found on other devices in this price range.

However, the longevity of the rotary mechanism worries me, which is why a long -term test will only show whether the purchase is worth it or not. I therefore leave a final rating open.
