In the final of The Walking Dead, some characters had to let their lives in 2022. Nevertheless, the remaining people at the end were optimistic about a previously unthinkable future.

In contrast to this end, Robert Kirkman's original vision of the comic series would have been. Because it should actually be completed significantly cruel and bleak.

The zombies win

In the re-release of the 84th edition of The Walking Dead, creator Robert Kirkman prize thatthe world should ultimately be taken over by the zombies(viaScreenRant).

We remember briefly: the series ends with Rick Grimes is murdered by Sebastian Milton (Pamela's son). Nevertheless, the company has almost rehabilitated decades later and there are only a few zombies.

Rick's son Carl lives with his wife Sophia and daughter Andrea in the country and a large statue in front of the courthouse in Commonwealth One honors his father's actions.

After a relaxed country life and a hopeful futureIf you look in vain in Kirkman's original idea:

The consideration was that Alexandria was so successful that Rick was able to spend his life there and a statue was built in honor, but in the end the city fell and the plague of the zombie apocalypse simply continued. So we would leave the readers behind with the thought that the zombies will win, no matter what people do ... I know. Terrible, isn't it?

And what does Rick-Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln say?According to Kirkman, he knew about the real idea and "was so nice to pretend that she was cool."

Ultimately, however, both the end of the comic series and that of the series go in a positive direction. However, there is a significant change:While the issues are complete, numerous spin-offs and the associated return of popular characters are expanding the cinematic universe.
