However, none of this would have existed if Robert Kirkman had not made the first of the 193 editions of the comics possible with a lie.
The invented twist
ImInterview mit IGNKirkman told in 2012 why he had to invent something about his zombie history at the time that did not occur in the comic. When he pitch his idea for The Walking Dead to his publisher Image Comics, he received the following answer:
Look, nobody will want a pure zombie book, there is nothing special, it is just a bunch of people who live in a world that is affected by zombies, and we don't think that is interesting enough, and we want you to add something else to lure the readers.
Kirkman reports that his concept was well received, but the publishers lacked that certain something. However, since the author believed in his story and already worked with Image Comics, he invented this "something" and claimedThere would be aliens in his story.
He describes the decayed twist for The Walking Dead as:
The whole book will be as I suggested, but in the course of the expenses I will finally reveal that it is actually extraterrestrial goods that caused the zombie uprising. And that will lead to a great battle between people and the alien, and the alien did this to weaken people's military forces, and finally there will be a great invasion of the aliens.
On this basis, The Walking Dead was approved by the publisher, but of course the whole thing flew.
"I flunk a little"
After the first edition of the comic book, Eric Stephenson, one of the publisher, reported to Kirkman, since heNo evidence of the alienscould discover.
When the author then confessed that he had "flunk a little" and preferred to want a pure zombie story, he received the surprising answer from Stephenson:"It's good because I read the book and thought: Hey, he could ruin it by packing aliens in here."
