The presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2 on yesterday's (April 02, 2025) Nintendo Direct was awaited by many players and also hot from me.
But a fan unpacked the 14-year-old Nintendo New-3Ds and pays homage to Nintendo like hardly any other.People
is the key word here.
Such ideas are among the reasons why I love the game community.
Old console as a streaming device
The user Bluesnooow has inNintendoSwitch2-SubredditShowed how he followed the Nintendo Direct and other users celebrate it for it - me too.
He looked at the Nintendo Direct on his modest New 3DS:

Funnily enough, he wasn't the only one who had this idea. The user AsignificantSpek shows in the same contribution that it did exactly the same.
Why on the New 3DS?The users have not given any reason why they looked at the announcement that way, but I have a guess: because they can.
That's exactly what I love about the game and tech communities: People have ideas and, despite the relatively complicated implementation, pull them through the same way.
What does the whole thing bring you?Absolutely nothing that you would not have achieved on the PC or smartphone. Apparently you did it because it's cool. I can just celebrate that.
The users seem to have a passion for hardware modding, because on their profiles there are some contributions to the modding of various older devices.
User AsignificantSpek could hardly wait for the announcement of the Switch 2 and made its own Gameboy SP made of cardboard. Even if that has little to do with Modding: I still have the greatest respect for it:

What was another new 3DS?
Although theNintendo DS is one of the most successful consoles of all time, the last generation of the handheld has lost a bit. At least that's how it seems to me-even if colleagues assure me that they know some people who play new 3Ds more often.
As a reminder: The New 3DS had Games, which was really only playable on this device. This already applied to the conventional 3DS, but here it was clear to the players where the difference to previous DS variants was: in the 3D display.
The additional shoulder buttons and the mini-analog stick were probably not enough to lift the console from the predecessor, as I suspect. A similar problem as it was with the Wii U.
If you want to see all the DS models again in comparison: Youtuber Tech Guy Beau shows the devices here again:

The New 3DS was even so unpopularthat he doesn't even appear in statistics for the world's best -selling consoles. Thus, the sales figures are still below those of the Playstation Vita.
And yet there are modder who are still devoting themselves to this console today, especially after the server is switched off on the part of the Nintendo. In my opinion, that's just strong.
