With a click on the button you can start text recognition.

In the latest version of the snipping tool, Microsoft inserted a new button with which you can copy any text from the screen.

Im Detail:

  • The new option is included in the Snipping Tool version 11.2503.27.0.

As when creating a screenshot, you will then be asked to draw a rectangle. Text that is located in the fenced area is recognized by the snipping tool using OCR technology.

Good to know:Optical Character Recognition (OCR) describes a technique with which it is possible to convert text from images, documents, videos and other sources into machine -readable text.

You can then copy the text or part of it, for example to edit it in a text editor. If you use the shortcut, the text will be copied directly without having to press a button or have a choice.

The snipping tool does not have to be started beforehand.

Previous versions of the snipping tool already support a similar function. However, it can only be used via the built -in editor. In the first step, it is necessary to create a screenshot.

In the editor, however, you have another function that has not been shown by the new button and shortcut. You can also remove the text from a screenshot in the editor.

Microsoft has not yet commented on when the new option will be available for all users of the operating system.
