I go to Sniper Elite: Resistance to other people hell on the biscuit - and you should do that too

Dimi has a new after -work job: messing up the day in Sniper Elite. Of course only with consent.

Has problems, no question. The shooter is currently on Steam with a lean 67 percent positive reviews, and even hard-boiled fans clear: Actually, we are only talking about an overturned standalone add-on- but at a proud price of 50 euros.

You read the whole storySo here is only the short version: In terms of gameplay, Resistance plays identical to the predecessor, again as a sniper in the Second World War, I go to France again, again huge sandbox missions await me in which I choose to be loud or quiet. Skilltree, variety of weapons, all identical to Sniper Elite 5.

As a real sequel, Resistance is through, but two circumstances drove me into the arms of the British sniper Harry Hawker:

  1. Sniper Elite: Resistance is in the Game Pass, as a subscriber I can handle the large business hurdle of 50 euros for a quasi-addon.
  2. There is still no other game like Sniper Elite.

No other game offers such a mix of Stealth and Sniper Gameplay. Good,Perhaps a little cocks in recent years, but (still) Sniper Elite remains the king. Here I lie on the game for minutes, watch awake patrols, use the bell sound of a nearby cathedral to camouflage my own shot-and Peng, flies the nasty Nazi glasses from the nasty Nazi nose.

But: I don't even feel about the regular single player experience today, because I have been lost in another unique mode since countless celebrations-the so-called invasions. And I want to make a small recommendation here, because you will probably not be able to enjoy these invasions for long.

What is the invasion of the axis powers?

In the invasions of the axis powers, as an enemy sniper, I penetrate other people's campaign games to provide me with a duel with the respective host. Whoever dies first loses. Don't worry, the option can be disabled - and that's a good thing, because that's how I know: WhoInvadeleaves, which is also ready for a very special cat-and-mouse game.

Invasions are now available in some games, especially in Dark Souls and Co., but also, for example, in Arkanes Deathloop. In Sniper Elite, however, this very special form of the multiplayer gets a particularly atmospheric note: a duel between two snipers who have no idea where the other is hiding, a playableDuell – Enemy at the Gates(If someone still knows the film), there is nowhere else.

As an attacker, I start somewhere in the other player's campaign mission. The maps in Sniper Elite are huge, entire villages full of buildings, roofs, basements, floors. Most people play the game quietly - so it may well be that I load into the match and first stand around like the ox in front of the mountain, because something is supposed to happen nowhere.

So I start like a genuine hunter with the track search: Where has the domestic Nazi population already decimated? Do I see corpses somewhere? Manipulated power boxes? Broken vehicles? The better I know the missions from a player perspective, the more precisely I can narrow down where the opponent should have started and long run.

The cat and mouse game

Don't worry, alternatively you can have the position of the opponent marked for a short time after five minutes. In addition, many people in their missions also organize quite a rambazamba that makes location a lot easier. Nevertheless: This fun game at the beginning, the surrounding of the opponent, has a very own fascination on me. It feels great to track down a opponent by pure deduction and then plan as I concern the matter.

Nevertheless, the opposite side knows about my existence and usually does not crouch around. Often enough, she puts me fall or directs me to false tracks with noise. I already run up a church tower because I know that the colleague is crouching only to tap into a rifle dates. Or the colleague has long since slipped down and just lurks that I stretch my head out of the church top.

In general: As soon as my opponent and I meet, it's round. Who stretches out the head first? Who runs less down? Because the fun in Sniper Elite is over with a good goal, I do much more prudently than in other multiplayer games-it is just a sniper duel. Perhaps I don't let the opponent know that I saw him and watch his movements by binoculars to make a perfect moment.

It gets even wilder when the opposing team comes in the two-man co-op. Sounds like a disadvantage at first, in reality Stealth goes wrong with astronomically high probability. So I only follow the noise and take one of the two co-op partners. Then the rest of the player only has over two minutes to do me, otherwise the showdown counts as lost. Suddenly canILean back and wait.

Now is the best time

Thanks to cross play and Co., it is currently just a second to find a new invasion game. However, these insanely short waiting times are likely to extend significantly in the next few weeks - Sniper Elite: Resistance caused little attention a few weeks ago, the number of players on Steam are at 3,000 people at the same time.

Sure, combined with PlayStation and Xbox, this potentiates, but only until most people are through with the story. So in order to really experience the invasion mode extensively, you shouldn't wait long. With a monthly subscription to the Game Pass, this is quite inexpensive (18 euros for one month). As a rule, 10 to 20 hours are enough to play through the story and experiment with the invasions, after that you can cancel again.

Of course: 18 euros are still a lot of money and I mentioned at the beginning that Resistance is anything but perfect. But if you have such an unusual multiplayer experience, then at least a sniff in my eyes.
