With the cell phone for the perfect steak: a smart thermometer was my best purchase for years

I recently bought the Meater Pro and now even good steaks succeed. (Gamestar tech)

Shoe sole - if I had to describe my steaks with one word, then with this.

I am light years away from being a grill professional.

I bought my first grill about two years ago and I think it is as I know from my non-grill professional parents: temperature to the highest level and the food is only taken off when it is guaranteed to be nice and dry.

Don't get me wrong: I actually like to grill, including my family. But we only do this a few times a year and are absolute laypersons when it comes to cooking points, temperature ranges and Co.

Of course, the food with plenty of sauce tastes quite good, but it is still a shame about the meat.

Smart solution for grill laypersons

The obvious solution would have been to deal intensively with barbecuing, study recipes, to become cooking points and become a professional.

… No thanks. My passion is not that big.

Instead, I bought a smart thermometer from Meater on time for spring. And in my view, it was well -invested money for a grill beginner like me.

This is how the smart thermometer works

The principle is simple: the thermometer is coupled with the cell phone via Bluetooth and inserted into the meat.

It measures the temperature at five points at the same time and sends the values to the software. Both the outside temperature and the core temperature of the grill goods are recorded.

The app offers more

  • Selection of the meat type:Rumpsteak, T-Bone, lamb chop, fish-there are numerous options.
  • Preparation method:Grill, pan, oven, even a fryer - yes, you can throw the thermometer into the boiling fat!
  • Target temperature:Depending on the type of meat, there is a table with cooking levels and the right temperatures.
  • Real-time monitoring:The temperature is continuously measured and the app shows the progress.
  • Calculation of the cooking time:One of the most helpful functions. The app estimates when the meat is finished and outputs push notifications.
  • Note at the perfect time:Shortly before reaching the target temperature, the app reports: "Remove meat from the heat!" After that, it has to rest for a few minutes, reaching the defined target temperature - and TAA: No more shoe sole!

My experience - it's worth it

I have to say: I think the little gadget is great. My steak is not always perfect for the degree, but it is better than what I prepared beforehand.

Cleaning is also simple, because the thermometer can simply be in the dishwasher.

Not for vegetarians and vegan

A small drop of bitterness: vegetarians and vegans don't have much from the treatment because they do not find meatless alternatives in the app - too bad, because it would certainly be needed here.

For meat eaters, on the other hand, there is a wide selection:

  • beef
  • pork
  • poultry
  • Lamm
  • Fisch

Each category is divided into different ways and cuts again - from fillet to chop to wild salmon.

The price: no bargain

The Meater Pro is not a bargain: around 140 euros for the station and thermometer are already an investment.

There are cheaper alternatives, for example from Thermopro or Enders, but I cannot judge how well they work.

However, if you consider that a good steak from the land slaughterer around the corner costs 20-30 euros quickly, a smart thermometer can pay off-especially if, like me, you are not an ambitious grill professional.

Not just for the grill

The thermometer does not only work on the grill. You can use it all year round - in the pan, in the oven or even in the deep fryer. It can withstand temperatures of up to 550 degrees Celsius.

The only catch: Nothing works without a smartphone. The app is imperative. If you don't feel like it, you can use the Pro-XL variant with four thermometers and independent ward-however, this costs well over 300 euros.

For me, the purchase was definitely worth it. I no longer have to eat shoe soles and still don't need to become a grill professional.

A smart thermometer is a recommendation for hobby grillers who want to achieve better results. Accordingly: good hunger!

Do you use a smart thermometer yourself or do you not need one yourself because you hit the cooking points like this? Give me your opinion and experience in the comments.
