The smart home sector has so far been neglected by Apple. There are two smart speakers, HomePod and HomePod mini, but otherwise the hardware looks poor.

Apple currently relies primarily on third-party providers who can integrate their devices into Apple's “Homekit” software platform. But that could change at least to some extent in 2025, as three new smart home devices are expected to be released.

In keeping with this, Apple is currently said to be working on its own Bluetooth and WLAN chips that focus on security and transmit user dataApples Secure-Enclave-Schutzsystemshould be better secured. You could also ensure that the upcoming devices work together smoothly.

HomePod with 7-inch display

In the coming year, Apple will loudlyMacrumorsexpand its HomePod portfolio and release a new smart speaker with a seven-inch display – similar to the Amazon Echo Show or Google Nest Hub.

The new HomePod will also have Apple's A18 chip andbe equipped. In 2024 there were some rumors about a new HomePod with a display, in addition to a separate smart home hub for controlling intelligent devices in the household, which should be similar to the iPad.

The rumors may be about the same product. This HomePod with display could come with its own “homeOS” operating system and, among other things, offer a widget-focused home screen. The device may also be marketed under its own name such as “Home Hub”.

The focus is likely to be primarily on smart home management. In addition, the device should also offer its own camera that could be used for FaceTime video calls or interior surveillance.

In addition to the HomePod with display, a new HomePod mini with Thread support (smart home wireless protocol) will also be available.

New Apple TV

It says loudly for 2025Macrumorsalso a new Apple TV, with which the new Bluetooth and WLAN chips will be introduced.

The streaming box should have support for WiFi 6E. This would allow the device to transmit over the 6 gigahertz band and offer faster WiFi speeds. This is also intended to reduce signal interference between the Apple TV and the router.

Unsurprisingly, the new Apple TV will also have the latest Apple chipset and will therefore be more powerful. There are still rumors that Apple could install a camera in one of the upcoming Apple TVs.

With tvOS 17, the FaceTime app came to the Apple TV. Video calls have since been possible via a connected iPhone or iPad. An integrated camera would make this unnecessary.

In addition to the entertainment functions, the Apple TV is also an important component in the smart home sector. Like HomePod and iPad, it serves as a smart home control center.

Smart home doorbell with FaceID

In his current one»Power On«-NewsletterBloomberg journalist Mark Gurman gives more details about Apple's smart doorbell. This could therefore be connected to a compatible smart lock that unlocks the door using the Face ID recognition of the bell.

This will probably also work with third-party smart door locks, but Apple could also be working on its own all-in-one solution.

However, the smart bell will probably not come onto the market until the end of 2025 at the earliest - possibly not until 2026 together with a new surveillance camera that loudlyAnalyst Ming-Chi Kuoshould also be planned.

With its own smart doorbell, Apple would be in direct competition with manufacturers such as Ring or Netatmo, who do not yet offer door unlocking using facial recognition.
