PS5 Pro: buy or not?

Not a new generation of consoles, but a new console nonetheless: Instead of jumping straight to the PlayStation 6, Sony is giving the PS5 another mid-generation upgrade to the PS5 Pro. The catch: the steep price of 800 euros plus 120 euros for the optional (and currently sold out) Blu-ray drive.

Is the box worth that much money? Well, as always the answer is: depends on what you expect for the money. Daniel Feith and Jan Stahnke from our tech team discuss what exactly is important in the talk.

Because both of them have already tested the PS5 Pro, Jan has it toowritten.

As expected, the new Sony console is also the most powerful to date - and surprisingly quiet, which will please people who want to avoid the impression that the Hindenburg is circling in their games room when the computing load is full.

The technology upgrade is of course noticeable in the image quality, the new upsampling technology PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) reduces pixel streaks and blurred edges, and in performance mode a stable 60 fps is possible even with ray tracing activated.

However, not in all games that we have been able to try out so far - Elden Ring, for example, also shows visual improvements, but sometimes misses the 60 mark, we doGamePro im PS5 Pro Testmeasured.

And that's exactly where the rub lies: The PS5 Pro is a very powerful console, but not a revolution compared to the PS5. You can see what Jan and Daniel think about it in the video above, and you can hear it in the podcast:
