With a new app, you could soon be able to play pen & paper role-playing games on your own on a regular basis

Like the texts, the images at Everweave are also AI-generated.

Pen & paper role-playing games can be a nice hobby.Explore fantastic realms together with friends, experience great adventures together and simply have a good time. We at GameStar.de also took on completely new roles some time ago, as you can see here:

But what if you're interested in pen and paper role-playing games but can't find a suitable group? Or when your old group has broken up and you are alone for now? Then you don't necessarily have to give up your hobby, as a new app shows.

App is reminiscent of old text adventures

Everweave is not just the name of the app. This is also the name of the fantasy realm into which you plunge headlong with your hero. Before that happens, you first have to choose a character.

Either you take a ready-made character or you create an alter ego yourself. In a simple editor you select your class and set the values of a total of five attributes. After a few clicks it starts.

After the editor you are thrown into the adventure. However, you should note that Everweave is a purely text role-playing game. All scenes and everything that happens around you are described in small texts? and that in English.

The plot of the adventure is told to you in small text.

The gameplay is very reminiscent of old text adventures: The app describes a scene to you and you have to decide what your character does. A city is being attacked, do you want to escape or take on the attackers?

Whatever you decide, you have to type the command into the appropriate field. An AI that acts as a game master then generates the further course of events based on your instructions. Every now and then you have to make tests based on your attributes? these are simulated by a virtual dice roll.

Who is behind the app?

A single developer is responsible for the app:Whitestone Andy. He has been interested in Dungeons & Dragons for years, like the developer on hisPatreon pagewrites. This is also how the app worksunderlying. According to his own statement, he has been working on Everweave for a year? part-time.

And apparently the work on the app doesn't seem to be finished yet. According to a roadmap, additional classes and a magic system will be added, among other things. However, the financing of the project is still in its early stages.

First impression

When we first tried it, the app made a solid and promising impression. However, there are also some points of criticism. For example, during battles there was a life bar pinned to the top of the screen? exactly where the accompanying text was displayed, which was therefore unreadable.

In addition, some text modules were repeated over time during the test run. This is particularly annoying because the AI is supposed to prevent such repetition. The scope is also currently limited: There are currently only two playable classes to choose from, Rogue and Fighter.

Players should also be aware that the app is a purely single-player experience. Fellow players are completely missing from the adventure.
