Oled and LCD will die out: The next step for TVs should finally be affordable

So far, the TV market has been dominated by OLED and LCD TVs. A third display technology is growing slowly but surely in its shadow: the first Microled models are now on the market.

Due to their combination of LCD-like lace lights and contrast values, as with OLED, they want to be the next step in the TV industry.

The hook is in the available sizes. Hardly a television with such a panel is available under 75 inches - and then likes to cost a five -digit sum. After all, problems such as the burn-in phenomenon should be eliminated in OLED TVs; At the same time, Microled should be more durable by using completely synthetic materials.

This makes the advantage of the new technology a disadvantage, because the manufacturing costs are still extremely high.

  • The arrangement of millions of small LEDs on substrates requires high precision, since small defects can already lead to exclusion.
  • As a result, microled TVs are not so easy to scale down to the common customs sizes such as 55 or 65 inches.

A Canadian company now wants to have found a development approach that is to be cleared out of the way and goes oppositeTechradarEven so far that "the end of OLED and LCD" is imminent.

"Microsolid Printing": an inkjet printer for TV production

The development of the "Vuereal" company based in Waterloo is the "Microsolid Printing" process, which is to be used to simplify basic production steps.

  • (Simplified) with Microled's filled cartridges are used, which, like an inkjet printer, apply the semiconductors directly to the desired target surface.
  • This also results in better quality control, because the cartridges can be checked for defects before use.

This combination of simplified error detection and modular structure should significantly reduce the production costs per display, because the material costs mentioned can be avoided significantly better in the event of any defect on the carrier plate.

Not only TVs should benefit: According to Vuereal, this process should not only reduce production costs, but are also suitable for small formats such as tablets or laptops. Microsolid Printing should already be suitable for the 65-inch TVs mentioned; However, the company does not name an introductory date.
