Google has steadily expanded its portfolio of Pixel products in recent years. The manufacturer's first smart watch, the Pixel Watch, was released in 2022, and the first tablet under the Pixel banner was released last year.
When it comes to laptops, however, in the context of the Pixel series, people were mostly satisfied with the models called “Chromebook”. The only exception here is the Chromebook Pixel, which was a powerful piece of high-end hardware in 2013, but also an extraordinarily expensive piece of high-end hardware (RRP: $1,300), especially for the time.
Now Google is probably starting a new attempt in the laptop sector, like the portalAndroid Headlineswant to know.
- Citing leaked internal Google emails, a “Pixel Laptop” is currently being developed.
- According to these emails, the product, also known as “Codename Snowy,” is being compared with current high-end competitors. The Apple Macbook Pro in particular is mentioned here, but other comparisons are also made to the Microsoft Surface Laptop or the Samsung Galaxy Book.
According to the report, a dedicated development team is currently working on this laptop. However, a quick release seems impossible; instead, it is still in an early stage of development.
- Accordingly, no technical data for the Pixel laptop is yet known outside of the alleged positioning in the high-end market.
- At least there is movement on the software side: HowAndroid Authorityexplained, Google should forego ChromeOS as the operating system for its laptops.
Instead, Android is marketed as a laptop operating system. To this end, Google is already working on a project that will last several years and will merge Android and ChromeOS.
This should provide laptops with significantly more offline applications, while tablets should have access to apps that are optimized for larger displays. The first results of Google's increased desktop focus can already be seen in Android 15, which enables improved window management.
Now we need your opinion: Does the notebook market need a Google alternative in the high-end range, especially if no established OS is used? Is a laptop with an Android operating system an option for you or is your Windows/MacOS/Linux enough for you? Let us know in the comments!
