The free hero shooter will be released on December 6, 2024, in which, as the name suggests, you can slip into the skin, suit or armor of some of the most famous comic book characters.
With 33 characters available for release, the selection is large. We'll give you an overview of all the available heroes and what role they play in a team of six.
Marvel Rivals: All 33 Characters and Their Roles
As is usual with hero shooters, Marvel Rivals also has three rolesTank, DPS and Healer. The names for these are in the game from NetEase GamesVanguard, Duelist and Strategist.
Vanguard
The tanks form the front line of your team and, thanks to their high life points, can take a lot of damage and often shield the team from enemy attacks. At the start, the following characters are available for this role:
- Bruce Banner/Hulk
- Captain America
- Doctor Strange
- Big
- Magneto
- penny parker
- Thor
- Venom
Duelist
The DPS heroes ensure the damage your team can cause. Here you will find both close and long-range fighters who target healers, attack the enemy's flank or weaken the tanks. At the start, the following characters are available for this role:
- Black Panther
- Black Widow
- Hawkeye
- Hela
- Iron Fist
- Iron Man
- Magic
- Moon Knight
- Namor
- Psylocke
- The Punisher
- Scarlet Witch
- Spider-Man
- Squirrel Girl
- Star-Lord
- Storm
- Winter Soldier
Strategist
Behind this name are the healers or at least heroes with supporting skills. They create hit points or strengthen other team members. At the start, the following characters are available for this role:
- Adam Warlock
- Jeff the Land Shark
- Loki
- Luna Snow
- Mantis
- Rocket Raccoon
Currently without an assigned role
Announced for release, but so far without an official role, are bothWolverine and Cloak and Dagger. The latter are two people, but will function as a single character in the game.

Please note that these characters are not officially confirmed and may not become part of Marvel Rivals.
For comparison: There were 21 heroes in the starting lineup of genre representative Overwatch when it was released in 2016. Over eight years and one “sequel” later, there are now 42.
