One last time I have to break the lance for the Localend (promised!). We already have in thePast reports on the free and advertising -free app.
In the past few weeks and months, however, tons of data about the software have hiked back and forth between different operating systems, so I would like to recommend it to you again.
The app is an integral part of my daily workflow.
What exactly does it do?
For everyone who does not yet know the Localend:
LocalsendIs a free, advertising -free and source -open app that transmits photos, videos, other files, intermediate racks and more between devices - similar to Apple's Airdrop or Google's Quickshare, only across all common operating systems.
The advantages at a glance
- The software is available for iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows, Linux and iPados.
- No separate account is required. Simply download, install and get started!
- The connection is encrypted.
- The file transfer takes place via the local WLAN and not via external server.
- The user interface is simple and intuitive.
- The files are usually transmitted quickly.
Why the Localend is so praised by me
I use imEveryday life mainly an iPad, a Mac and an Android smartphone. While the transmission between an iPhone and other Apple devices is a child's play thanks to Airdrop, everyday life with an Android cell phone in combination with Apple products looks very different.
Earlier alternatives such as "Androidfiletransfer" for the transfer between the Google platform and my Mac provided frustration. Crashes or dropouts during data transfer were regular.
With an alternative like Localend, all of my problems dissolved in air.
- With my cameras I take tons of photos that I copy on the Mac via SD card and, thanks to the Localend, with a wipe on my smartphone to share them with others.
- Sporadically, I copy the pictures on the cell phone via the camera app and later transfer them to the iPad or MacBook-within a few seconds.
- Optionally, even the clipboard between Android, Mac and Co. can be copied.
- For me, the previous detour via cloud solutions such as Nextcloud, Google Photos or iCloud does not apply to me.
The application gives the devices clear names, so that you know exactly where the files are transferred. They can also be saved as favorites to automatically accept file inquiries without having to confirm them manually.
The app also brings me the greatest benefit for me almost every day in my work as an editor. Screenshots of various smartphones can be copied to the Apple computer in no time at all and prepare for articles like this.
For some videos, I film with the smartphone camera, which in places leads to larger amounts of data, especially if I handle color profiles such as logs.
So the app is in use every day and makes it more lighter to me (working) life. If you sit in the same boat, work with a Mac and have an Android cell phone in your pocket, hopefully will help you with the same way as I do.
