I don't like to work as well as concentrated on any other device as on that. Among other things, this is due to the fact that the entire screen is immediately used by default when opening an app. There is no space for distractions on the screen.
In addition, the form factor ensures that the flounders always find a place in the backpack and gives me the feeling of being able to work from anywhere. I optionally clamp the tablet off the keyboard and scratch my notes on the big display.
Fourth plus point: The latest updates around Lightroom, Photoshop and Apple's cutting program Finalcut Pro, if necessary, let me fall back on my usual workflow from the Mac - with eventful cuts.
With all love, Ipados also has (small) weaknessesthat become potential disruptive factors in everyday work. In particular, the file management is still far from a desktop-like experience.
With IPADOS 19, Apple seems to venture a major attack towards multitasking and productivity again, which I am particularly happy! More than a new iPhone or other announcements.
Ipados 19 with focus on productivity
As the well-informed Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman seems to know, Apple with Ipados 19 "focuses on productivity, multitasking and app window management". The big goal is that the tablet "works more like a Mac" in the future (via9to5mac).
The Apple expert remains guilty of concrete details, but the information sounds promising-if they come.
The truth also includes that there have repeatedly reports about improvements in these areas in recent years. The big jumps have so far failed.
Withironed. Thebrought practical improvements such as formatting hard drives or the tab bar. The latter remained significantly behind the expectations at least for me.
Such a bar for file management would make sense if you could adapt it to your own needs.
Why these improvements are more likely than ever
Apple. In any case, the rumors of such a device do not tear off. The first foldable from Cupertino should come onto the market at the earliest in 2026.
There is also talk of a larger folding device, which is supposed to measure an impressive 18.8 inches.
If there is actually a folding iPhone, Apple would have to optimize the iOS interface for this device. The iPad operating system is based on iOS and so a revision is likely to be due for iPados, even if a foldable iPad is long in coming.
Consequently, Apple, similar to Google and Samsung, will optimize the mobile operating system in terms of multitasking, productivity and window management - according to my assessment.
The so -called foldables are still a long way off. It is also conceivable that Apple announces major changes to the operating system with the famous words "Later This Year" or even for 2026.
Two points "must" improve Apple with iPados 19
Apple will not want to make the Mac Obsolet for iPad owners and that is perfectly fine. But the performance of an M4 chip can be exhausted. In my opinion, two improvements are sufficient to significantly upgrade the mobile operating system and to silence the call for a MacOS-like user experience.
1. Better support for external monitors
At the beginning of this article, I benevolently highlighted the focus on an application that ends up on the iPad screen when starting in full screen mode. Above all, I appreciate the flexibility of the iPad and the possibility of expanding my work on a large, high -resolution screen (up to 6k).
However, the app window management of the apps on an external monitor simply does not seem well thought out and it starts when an app is opened. If you start a new app without holding the Shift key, the system minimizes the app windows that are currently open. Imagine that would be standard on every desktop operating system.
In addition, the arrangement of the windows with the top three points appears hooky and unintended. If I switch to full screen mode with an app about it, there is no easy way back via a button "reverse fully image mode" (or something like that).
The change to the three symbols at the top left of the Mac (close, minimize, expand) would be a big win.
2. Better file management
As already mentioned, Apple has made some practical improvements to the file application. However, the previous optimizations do not go far enough.
Why can't the tab bar be adjusted in any app? The quick accesses are limited to "course", "shared" and "search" in the file browser. The possibility of adding specific folders to the Sidebar would significantly upgrade the tab bar.
The most important missing function: "Open with". To edit a picture in Lightroom, for example, I must first open the image editing program and then search for the photo in the files app.
These are two small optimizations that would drastically improve working on the iPad without dangerously near a Maco. Practical sorting functions and intelligent folders would of course be the icing on the cake on the i.
The WWDC 2025 begins on June 9th. At the developer conference of Apple, we get a first insight into the plans of the iPhone manufacturer. I'm more than excited!
Now I'm interested in your opinion on Ipados! Do you have similar expectations of the iPad operating system or are my wishes mercilessly exaggerated? How do you use the Apple tablet? Are there alternatives from the Android camp with which you work? Please write your opinion in the comments below!
