Joyor C10E in the test: Brilliant all-rounder for on-road and off-road use - with old weaknesses

The Joyor C10E in the test.

AfterThe manufacturer is bringing a new model onto the market with the Joyor C10E. Thanks to the front suspension, thick 10-inch tires and a powerful 500-watt motor, this should also be suitable for light terrain.

I drove the scooter for several weeks and compared it with the S5. The test shows that the C10E is better in some disciplines, but also inherits some of the flaws of older Joyor scooters.

Transparency notice and savings code:Geekmaxi provided me with the Joyor C10E (with ABE approval) free of charge for the test. The manufacturer had no influence on the article content and was not given access to it before the test was published. There was no obligation to provide a test report.

If you buy the e-scooter from Geekmaxi, you can use the codeB52C3AAJSave another 50 euros on the purchase price.

Scope of delivery and construction

The e-scooter is delivered well packaged and pre-assembled. All you need to do is fix the handlebars with four Allen screws – that’s it. Of course, you should also check your brakes, lights and tire pressure before your first ride. As usual, the manufacturer includes the necessary tools.

Interesting facts about the test

This is how I tested

Design, workmanship & portability

Compared to the S5, the C10E looks significantly more modern without losing any of its sportiness. The elegant and high-quality chassis has a continuous housing frame without screws.

Instead of the bright color accents of the S5, the C10E relies on black minimalism. For me, this e-scooter is one of the smartest I've ever tried.

At 19.5 kilograms, it is almost 1.5 kilograms lighter than the S5, but still not a lightweight. This is just enough to take with you on public transport or in the trunk.

ASpeaking of the trunk:The C10E also cannot be stowed away to save space. You can fold the e-scooter using a safety lever on the handlebar, but you cannot fold the handlebars, which are around 60 centimeters wide. Definitely a knockout criterion for a small car.

The only thing that helps here is to loosen the handlebars slightly and turn them 90 degrees. It's a workable solution for a weekend trip, but not something I would do regularly. In any case, I have to use some skill and strength to fit the C10E and S5 into my Octavia.

I was also annoyed that the folded handlebars didn't lock onto the rear wheel. Although there is a bracket for hooking it on (see picture), which makes it easier to carry, it always slips out when folded.

This is how the Joyor C10E drives

As with other Joyor models, starting off requires some getting used to, as the engine only develops its full power from around 6 km/h. However, this small delay actually makes starting off safer.

Apart from that, the scooter is a lot of fun to ride. On the one hand, this is due to the sensitive throttle lever, with which you can control the speed at any time. In assistance level 3, the powerful motor accelerates up to 21 km/h thanks to the permitted tolerance. On the other hand, the excellent suspension contributes significantly to driving pleasure.

I was surprised at how well the C10E handles gravel roads and bumpy cobblestones, even though it only has front suspension.

The wide tires contribute significantly to cushioning and offer sufficient grip even in wet conditions. It's a pleasure to travel off-road with the C10E. However, caution is advised when it comes to mud: the C10E definitely struggles here. The S5's tires are a little better suited for outdoor driving.

In my test, the C10E easily mastered 15 percent inclines. However, at 58 kilos, I am not representative and the engine behavior could vary depending on my body weight.

Stable footing is important when driving through puddles and over bumpy forest paths. The thick tires and the wide, stable handlebars provide a high feeling of safety. However, the running board is narrower than on the S5, so even with shoe size 41 I can't put both feet next to each other.

I also liked the brakes because they are easier to control than on the S5 and unwanted emergency braking occurs less often. Overall, I felt safe on the scooter, with one exception: when turning, I had to take one hand off the handlebars, as the manufacturer also did not use indicators on this model.

Known weakness, strong innovation

The C10E inherits some of its predecessors' weaknesses, but also brings a cool innovation. First about the weaknesses:

A medium-sized color display informs you at all times about the assistance level, your speed, kilometers traveled and remaining battery capacity. However, the latter is still far too imprecise and therefore unusable.

The problem:The remaining capacity is calculated dynamically depending on your driving style (which is good), but is only shown in five colored bars.

During a trip through the forest, the display stopped working for megelb(probably still reaches the car) andshiny rot(I'm stranded in the middle of the undergrowth) back and forth.

It is incomprehensible to me why the manufacturer does not offer an exact kilometer display or at least indicate the remaining capacity in percent.

In addition, the display reflects strongly in sunlight and is hardly readable. Joyor should make improvements here too.

What's cool, in addition to the brake warning light, is the battery that can finally be removed. I no longer have to drag the entire scooter into the house to charge it. A welcome innovation, especially for people in rented apartments.

How realistic is the range of 40 kilometers?

This varies depending on the weather, surface and your weight. I weigh 58 kilograms and traveled over 35 kilometers with the 500 Wh battery in sunny to cloudy weather around 15 degrees and some inclines.

I think the stated range of a maximum of 40 km is realistic under better conditions (summer, no gradients). The charging time is reasonable at five to six hours.

Should you buy the Joyor C10E?

The e-scooter is worth it for you if you:

  • Lives in rural areas with uneven or broken roads
  • Looking for a scooter for shorter distances or smaller trips
  • Have a large trunk as the scooter is quite bulky and the handlebars cannot be folded
  • A removable battery is preferred, for example because you have to climb a lot of stairs

Possible alternatives to the Joyor C10E:

  • Theif you value a longer range (up to 50 kilometers) and want even more comfort (wider tread, double suspension).
  • Theif you are looking for a more compact, maneuverable e-scooter for the city
  • The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro if you prefer indicators and app support, but are more likely to be on slippery roads

I had a lot of fun with the Joyor C10E. The brake warning light, the removable battery and the more comfortable brakes are sensible improvements compared to the S5. It also looks even more high-quality and chic.

However, if you often travel by car, on public transport or on paved, slippery roads, you should look for a more compact and lighter alternative. If you live in a rural area like me, you'll get your money's worth with the C10E.
