Intel Arc B580: The first tests are here and show that Battlemage has a lot of potential

How does the first Battlemage GPU perform in reviews?

Around a week and a half after Battlemage was introduced, the test embargo for the Intel Arc B580 was lifted. During the bubbling rumor mill in the weeks before the announcement, the new graphics card was already positioning itself as a beacon of hope for budget and mid-range GPUs.

During theThese hopes were further fueled, because in the USA the Arc B580 sounded attractively priced with an RRP of 250 US dollars.

  • In this aspect, however, we have to be disappointed: Intel still does not provide any information about the euro price for the reference model. So far is.
  • The manufacturer is saving what many consider to be the most important information until the end: Tomorrow, December 13th, the Intel Limited Edition will also go on sale. On this date there will finally be final clarity about the EIA in Germany and whether the waiting game turns out to be a bad omen.

Arc B580: This is what the international reviews say

At least reliable statements can now be made about the performance of the Arc B580. Because once the test embargo falls, the first manufacturer-independent benchmarks for Intel Battlemage are also available.

We have summarized for you how the new GPU hope actually performs in the following press review. (Note d. Editor: You won't find our test here - we haven't been sampled by Intel yet.)

Intel Arc B580 - A selection of reviews

PC Games Hardware

Intel's latest graphics card may only be a mid-range model, but the results surprise on several levels, in most cases positive. [...] Battlemage is small as a BMG-G21, but still a big hit.

The Intel Arc B580 “Battlemage” makes a much better impression at launch than the predecessors of the “Alchemist” generation two years ago. [...] But you shouldn't be exuberant, because even though everything has undoubtedly gotten better, in this case better doesn't always mean good. [...]

The Intel Arc B580 is Intel's further attempt to gain a foothold in discrete graphics cards. The overall experience leaves a much better picture than was the case with the Arc A770 and A750 two years ago, but this cannot hide the fact that there are still many construction sites.

That's just a huge plus point about this card that it has 12 GB of RAM. I think it won't hurt to take another look at where this card ended up in a month or two - especially in terms of performance.

Priced at $249, the Intel Arc B580 holds very interesting potential for GPU computing tasks, especially for budget-conscious Linux users and those who prefer a fully open ecosystem with open source and upstream driver support.

Intel Battlemage is significantly better than Alchemist. But there are still some problems. [...] The driver only prevented one game from starting.

Priced at $250, the Arc B580 offers great value for money. [...] Overall, Intel's new card is in an excellent position to gain market share in this high-volume segment. However, this leadership position may not last long [...]

Basically, the Intel Arc B580 is at least an interesting option in the predicted performance category.

According to the numerous benchmarks, the new Battlemage GPU can outperform the Nvidia RTX 4060 and AMD RX 7600 by around a double-digit percentage, especially in Full HD resolution.

  • However, the comparatively high idle consumption of the Arc B580 as well as possible driver problems, which led to a total crash in Dragon Age: Veilguard, are still critical.
  • And as is usual with new hardware, everything with the Intel Arc B580 depends on the actual price in euros for which the Battlemage GPU will be sold tomorrow. Many tests mention the maximum limit of 300 euros that the graphics card should cost for a “price-performance tip”.
