Apple is expected to release its major iPhone update in Decemberrelease together with iPadOS 18.2, watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2 and visionOS 2.2.
Yesterday evening the manufacturer rolled out the third developer beta of iOS 18.2.
Below we will show you an overview of all the innovations (via9to5Mac)
Photos app with new/old video player
With the update to iOS 18, Apple changed the interface of the video player in the Photos app. Recorded clips did not fill the screen when played. Only by tapping on the display did you zoom into full screen mode.
However, the controls and the preview for further recordings in the video library also disappeared.
In the second test version of iOS 18.2, the manufacturer is now undoing these changes. Videos start in full screen mode again, as in previous iOS versions. Controls and other videos are also displayed.
Controls and previews can of course also be hidden. All you have to do is tap the screen once.
New function for the camera button
In the latest iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 2, the camera button on the iPhone 16 received a new function. A slight press will lock the autofocus and the exposure in the future.
The third test version adds another feature or a small improvement.
If the iPhone display was previously turned off, the camera button had to be pressed twice to turn on the screen and then start the camera app. This can now be changed.
In the settings under “Display & Brightness” there is the “Require Screen On” option for camera control. If the function is deactivated, a simple press of the camera button is now sufficient to open the camera app.
This feature is currently not available in the EU due to a lack of Apple Intelligence. In the third iOS 18.2 beta, Apple has improved the accessibility of its “Writing Tools”.
If a text is selected within the notes app, the function appears directly next to “Cut”, “Copy” and “Paste”. Previously, you first had to scroll through the tools to get to the feature.
The new “Writing Tools” are intended to simplify the management of your own notes. Among other things, the function can summarize texts, correct them, change the style and much more.
Details about the new “Share object location” function
Apple introduced a new feature for the Find My app with the second beta of iOS 18.2. Using “Share object location”, lost AirTags can be shared with other people or even airlines that help with the search.
In oneApple has a press releasemore details have now been published. Accordingly, over 15 airlines are expected to add the function to their customer service in the coming months.
Customers can then share the locations of items with the airline to locate mishandled or delayed bags. Large airlines will be on board at the start, including Lufthansa, Eurowings and British Airways.
Furthermore, the new function from SITA, a leading provider of aviation technology, is to be integrated into “WorldTracer”. This is a baggage tracking system used by over 500 airlines at more than 2,800 airports worldwide.
The “Share object location” function can be used on all iPhones from the iPhone Xs onwards.
iPadOS 18.2 Beta 3: Customizable navigation bar for TV app
On the iPad, the third beta of iPadOS 18.2 brings an innovation to Apple's pre-installed TV app. When the sidebar is collapsed, it appears in the top center of the home page.
Additional categories beyond Home, Store, and Search can be added or removed via drag-and-drop from the sidebar.
The customizable navigation bar was previously available in the Music app on the iPad. In the TV app you can use it to jump more quickly to your recent purchases or, for example, 4K HDR content.
Revised icons for next-generation CarPlay
Revised icons for Apple's new CarPlay system have appeared in iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 2. On X (formerly Twitter) Aaron Perris from Macrumors shared the new icons for “Media” and “Climate”.
Apple's "Next Generation of CarPlay" is to be significantly expanded in new vehicles in the future. Car manufacturers can then integrate the software into all vehicle displays, and the air conditioning or radio can also be controlled via CarPlay, among other things.
Apple SeaThe first vehicles with the new CarPlay are expected to be delivered in 2024.
For non-developers, iOS 18.2 is currently available in an initial public beta. It can be assumed that a second test version will follow this week.
