Garmin recently has onebumps. The majority of you see it the same way.
To publish the article, 4504 people took part in our survey.
- Under no circumstances will 50 percent pay for the subscription.
- 21 percent observe the development critically.
- It doesn't matter 12 percent, since nothing is currently changing on the range of functions.
- Again 12 percent take the opportunity to switch to the competition.
- 3 percent make your membership dependent on the future range of functions, and 1 percent is ready to pay.
What about me? I am one of the people who don't care about the subscription.
The functions already contained don't let me think about itto pay for the subscription in the future. In addition, nothing should change on the existing features (for now!), As Garmin himself emphasizes.
The second reason: The innovations behind Connect+ are not convincing.
The range of functions of Garmin watches is huge
I start with the positive message: Garmin Smartwatches are usually worth their price and this is due to several factors:
- Garmin Smartwatches impress with high -quality workmanship.
- The support cycle is above average.
- The battery life is extremely long.
- The number of features is usually immense.
While you have to complete a subscription to other smartwatches for detailed training and sleep evaluations (including a Morning report) and health information, I get this from Garmin when buying the smartwatch at no monthly costs.
There was therefore little to complain about with the sinfully expensive fenix 8 solar:
For athletes and hikers there are great functions to discover at all corners and ends that are fun -.
In addition, a Garmin Coach creates a plan tailored to the personal goal, such as distance or speed goals, improvement in general fitness, strength structure or training for a (half) marathon. There are challenges for more motivation on top.
Depending on the model, music and podcasts are no problem on the go without a smartphone in the pocket. And that is far from the end of the flagpole.
Only missing LTE models and Garmin Pay have to criticize. The selection of supported banks for paying with the watch is very manageable and is limited to MasterCard and Visa.
With Connect+, the manufacturer now also offers other attack areas.
The innovations in Connect+ do not get away well
As a reminder: these are the functions in Connect+:
- New badges and challenges
- Videos and instructions
- Artificial intelligence (for advice in the dashboard)
- Performance dashboard (individual graphics)
- Live activity (workout can be mirrored on smartphone)
- Extended livetrack (notify contacts when starting training via SMS).
Unfortunately, the new features trigger little enthusiasm, especially the AI. Senior editor John-Anthony fromTechradarfinds clear words:
[...]Garmin Connect+ offers very basic functions and general AI answers that you could receive from any chatbot worldwide[...]
To classify: The functions around Active Intelligence are in the beta phase and are intended to provide further knowledge from the fitness and health data. But apparently the paid results of the AI have so far provided hardly any helpful knowledge, as author Stephen Warwick summarizes:
[...] Of the six functions of Garmin Connect+ Active Intelligence is the only one who would have made sense behind a paywall if the added value had been available. At the moment this is simply not the case [...]
There are now numerous threads of users on Reddit who share their AI insights. These range from short motivational phrases to simple mathematical calculations, such as many steps to the finish.

Errors are also included, which of course is not unusual for a product in the beta phase.
However, Garmin demands a price of 9 euros per month or 90 euros per year today. Apart from the fact that subscriptions have no good stand anyway, the price has to be worth it even more.
A (small) skepticism remains
The start of Connect+ is not a good star. The community is outraged and the functions it contains do not convince.
It all leaves me cold - I am extremely satisfied with the already contained scope. In addition, none of the functions contained in the subscription currently offers me added value.
Nevertheless, a subtle fear float in the room that the manufacturer could decide to pack existing functions behind the paywall. At least according to Garmin, there are currently no such plans.
So I will be excited to see how Connect+ develops.
