The arcade racing classicis known for its soundtrack, which includes punk rock legends such as The Offspring and Bad Religion. However, their songs are protected by copyright, which is why they cannot easily be used on Twitch and similar platforms.

This is particularly annoying for speedrunner chuckles825, who wanted to play the game's Crazy Box mode during the last edition of the Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) speedrun events. A creative solution ultimately led to something happening with participation in AGDQ.

Do What You Want

This is not only one of Bad Religion's biggest hits, the speedrunner's action could also be commented on like this. Because instead of just giving up, he teamed up with the band Limiter Cut andcircumvented copyright through live music.

The event started and the band started playing. Yes,Even the music from the main menu was played! And that wasn't that easy, because the Crazy Box mode consists of 16 smaller, time-limited challenges. So the band always had to concentrate on the gameplay in order to be able to stop the music and start the right songs at the right moments.

This is how the collaboration came about

chuckles825 and the guitarist 2dos have obviously known each other for a long time.On RedditThe latter explains that Crazy Taxi had not been played at Games Done Quick for a decade and that the organization had rejected numerous other submissions in recent years for copyright reasons.

We hadCrazy Taxisubmitted several times over the years after our AGDQ run in 2015, but to no avail. We would have had to mute the soundtrack if it had been accepted at the time, for licensing reasons.

The band was newly formed and the members came from different corners of the USA, which is why they were only able to record and submit the application video for the event at the Summer Games Done Quick 2024. They were finally accepted with the live band.

The band is still not sure whether there will be a next time. However, you have already considered that there are other games where a live band would definitely be appropriate. Examples are Crazy Taxi 2 or Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. In any case, they hope to have inspired the AGDQ and to enable more unique submissions in the future.
