Civilization 7: First mods are already improving problems that are just annoying many players

Ben Franklin is a man of science and greets people who take care of their problems. For example with mods.

is controversial. In the core there is again a really entertaining 4x strategy game in it, with many fresh ideas. But at the same time it feels unfinished or deliberately reduced in some areas. The result is a split community,What about theSteam reviewsshows. Only about 50 percent of them are currently positive.

The game was only officially published on February 11th, at least if you have not already gained access with a special edition. But many fans are already screwing on small mods, which should at least fix some of the most urgent problems. We summarize a few of the most important mods here.

Quick access

Install mods

Most of the current mods for Civilization 7 can be found in the forumcivfanatics.com. Here you can also browse a little, maybe there is something for you! Since there are no official modding tools and no connection to the Steam workshop, modder are restricted in their possibilities and you have to install the mods manually.

In most cases, however, this works quite easily:

  • Download the mod.
  • Unpacked the downloaded folder and copy it.
  • Add the mod into the folder provided for this: {user} \ AppData \ Local \ Firaxis Games \ Sid Meier's Civilization VII \ Mods.
  • Remember that the AppData folder is usually hidden. But you come in if you simply copy the path at the top (but replace users beforehand with your user name on the PC) or copy in the Windows search % Appdata %.

We recommend these mods

Since CIV 7 is currently criticizing a lot for its interface, many mods focus primarily in this play area. None of these eliminates the basic problem that the interface does not make a lot of visually. But many help to keep an overview more easily in some areas. However, there are also a few mods that take care of other problems:

Bessere Tooltips: Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments

The currently most popular mod is about improving the interface. The tooltips in particular are improved here. This gives you better information about what a field on the world map holds exactly for you. The improvements include:

  • Early symbols are smaller if the field has not been modernized.
  • Tooltips show which building can basically be built on a field.
  • Building fields now show the symbol of the buildings built here.
  • Miracles are shown in the tooltip with a large symbol and a description.
  • Further information on buildings is displayed in the tooltip, such as whether it is timeless or damaged.

Better resource windows: Kayleer's Misc Ui Modifications

If you are like me, then the resource screen will probably take you crazy. It seems randomly sorted and you have to rum permanently. The screen is sorted much better with this mod.

Now there are always cities at the top, the municipalities below. In addition, the cities were sorted by number of resource places. There are a few more help, such as that the resource lenses mark with a golden edge if a resource can generate a treasure fleet.

Larger cards: Ynamp - Larger Map, TSL, Continnts ++ (Alpha)

Even with the largest map category, the worlds in CIV 7 usually feel relatively compact. Some fans are also annoyed that unlike before, there is no map of the real earth in CIV 7. Both are to be fixed with this mod.

It inserts the card sizes large, huge and tremendously into the game and allows you to play on a large replica of the earth. Just be careful that your computers come with you and you follow the instructions of the mod manufacturer. Some cards are not playable.

Another practical little mod that optimizes the interface a little. Here it is ensured that you no longer have to scroll as much in the tree in your cities, since everything is shown a little more compact. The symbols are smaller, the information about the individual statistics arranged more space -saving. Simple, but useful!

All civilizations: unlock all civs

In CIV 7 you have to unlock many civilizations of the exploration age and for modernity in the course of the game. Either by playing certain civilizations from antiquity or certain leaders, or by mastering them. If you don't feel like all of this, you can use this mod to select all civilizations from the start.

Of course, the Mod machinery is really getting rolling. We are strongly expecting that many more modifications will open in the next few weeks and months. In addition, Firaxis itself is also at work and has already announced UI improvements via patch. Later on top of that, real mod support is to follow, with which the Mod locks are only really opened.
