Important security update for the iPhone: Apple releases iOS 18.1.1 and iOS 17.7.2

iOS 18.1.1 is now available for download and closes two security gaps.

Last night Apple released an important update forpublished. This is a security patch that fixes two vulnerabilities in the system.

The update is also available for iPad, Mac and Apple Vision. iPadOS 18.1.1, macOS 15.1.1 and visionOS 2.1.1 can be installed now.

Security gaps may already be actively exploited

SeaAppleThe security patch fixes a security vulnerability in JavaScriptCore. This allows attackers to arbitrarily execute code on the device via manipulated web content.

Apple has closed this gap with improved checking of websites.

The second security leak affects the WebKit browser engine. This makes it possible for cybercriminals to implement malicious code in websites that are not recognized by the browser and are simply executed.

This could, among other things, spread malware or access sensitive data. According to Apple, the error was due to a problem with the browser's cookie management.

The manufacturer has a report that both security holes may have already been actively exploited. The devices affected were Intel-based Mac systems.

Update released for older iPhones and iPads

In addition to iOS 18.1.1 and iPad 18.1.1, Apple has also rolled out the security update for older devices with iOS 17.

iOS 17.7.2 is now available for download and closes the same security gaps as the update to iOS 18.1.1.
