Just before Christmas, Amazon is expanding its portfolio for bookworms. A number of older devices have been provided with updates... and.
Before you grab the new models, there are a few things you should know.
Using old cases: yes or no?
No new cases have been announced yet, and there are no pictures of the new devices in cases yet. If you compare the sizes of the e-readers, you can see that there are changes, but only minimal.
Kindle Colorsoft | Kindle Paperwhite | Kindle-Reader | Kindle Scribe | |
---|---|---|---|---|
New model | 127,6 mm x 176,7 mm x 7,8 mm | 127,5 mm x 176,7 mm x 7,8 mm | 108,6 mm x 157,8 mm x 8,0 mm | 196 mm x 230 m x 5,7 mm |
predecessor | 125 mm x 174 mm x 8,1 mm | 108,6 mm x 157,8 mm x 8,0 mm | 196 mm x 229 mm x 5,8 mm |
So the answer is: it depends.
The dimensions of the classic Kindle reader remain identical, so you can also use your old case.
With the Paperwhite the changes are too big. Here's what Amazon tells us when we ask:
The new Kindle Paperwhite is a bit larger than the previous generation (0.2 inch more screen diagonal, about 3 mm wider and higher, slightly narrower), so unfortunately the cases don't fit.
The new Colorsoft and the new Paperwhite are almost the same size, so you can also use your old case for the Kindle with a color display.
And at Scribe? This is where things get a little tricky. The new generation is one millimeter longer and 0.1 millimeter thinner than the previous Kindle Scribe. The old covers can still fit if you adjust them accordingly. If you want to be on the safe side, you should already budget for a new case.
An absolute novelty: Kindle in Matcha
Previously the Kindle reader was only available in black, but now also in matcha green.
But you can also choose from new colored cases for the other models. The Paperwhite was previously black, agave green and denim blue.
The new colors in addition to black from Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature are:
- Jade green
- Rosa
In the signature version even in metallic colors.
However, if you pack your Kindle in a protective case, the color becomes irrelevant. But looks aren't everything, stamina is.
Battery life up to 3 months
A long-lasting battery is important. After all, you want to be mobile with your Kindle and not constantly look for the next power outlet. How long will the new devices last?
- Kindle Colorsoft:The first color display should run for 8 weeks.
- Kindle Scribe: The new scribe should last for 12 weeks. However, the value is based on half an hour of reading time per day with the wireless connection switched off and screen brightness 13. If it is used for writing, which is what it is primarily intended for, it is only 3 weeks - if you use it for 30 minutes a day.
- Kindle Paperwhite:It has the strongest battery of all and is said to last up to 3 months. This is a value that bookworms can get used to.
- Kindle-Reader:The small reader lasts up to 6 weeks.
There are innovations not only in battery consumption, but also in charging.
The charging dock promises a full battery in two hours. But that's not the fastest thing about Kindles so far.
More technology, better contrast, higher speed
There are changes in the hardware that all users will be happy about.
- Oxide thin film screens:They provide better contrast, deeper blacks and sharper text.
- Standard and Vivid: With these two color options you determine whether you read with simple colors on the Colorsoft or whether the color is enhanced in less saturated images.
- Higher speeds:The new Kindle Paperwhite is said to be the fastest Paperwhite ever – a full 25 percent faster.
The higher speed is an absolute highlight. Anyone who owns a Paperwhite knows that it can be quite sluggish. With the new one you should be able to leaf through entire books in just a few seconds.
AI-ndle Scribe: Intelligent features transform Sauklaue into calligraphy
The Kindle Scribe is the notebook among readers. Thanks to the featureActive Canvas
you make your notes directly on the open page. Your notes are connected to the text.
This means that the texts of the book do not disappear behind your notes, but move around the text block. If you move your notes, the text also moves.
There are also two AI functions:
- Refine writing:If you have illegible handwriting, the AI will scan your text and rewrite your notes in legible ones.
- Summarize:This function scans your text and combines it into a shorter text. You then put the shortened version at the beginning or end of your note.
Your texts should not be used for AI training purposes.
Which Kindle do you like best? Do you read graphic novels? Which book is lying on your nightstand? What feature are you missing on your e-book reader? Are you Team Tolino or Team Kindle? Are you old school and only read printed books?
