The Switch 2 has been announced, the new Nintendo console is coming this year. We also know from events that it will still take a while.
With lots of leaks, wild black market stories and a slightly pissed off onecompany announced the Switch 2 on January 16th. Without a big event, Nintendo released oneand showed once again that they go their own way. There is no specific release date yet, the information may come with it. However, we already know that after the Direct it will probably take at least another month until the Switch 2 is launched.
The preview event reveals: Switch 2 still needs a little time
When could the Switch 2 come?We expect June 2025, but that cannot be said with certainty yet. The complete reveal with all details and official hardware configurations will take place on April 2nd. Afterwards, test events will run until June 1st, where fans can hold the console in their hands for the first time.
But you can also perhaps derive a little from earlier console ideas. If the release of the Switch 2 is similar to its predecessors Wii U and Switch, it will still take around 2 months after the Nintendo Direct:
- Wii U: Presentation Nintendo Direct September 13, 2012 / Release on November 18, 2012
- Switch: Presentation Nintendo Direct January 13, 2017 / Release March 3, 2017
- Switch 2: Presentation Nintendo Direct April 2nd / Release June 2025?
There were almost exactly two months between the direct presentation and the release of the last two Nintendo consoles. Nintendo may rely on this rhythm again, then the Switch 2 would come onto the market in June 2025. However, the last preview event in South Korea will not take place until June 1st, 2025 and it could be that Nintendo does not plan the release immediately afterwards..
