Now the time has come. For a monthNintendo sets the gold dot program for the Nintendo Switch. From March 25th you will no longer receive gold points for purchased switch games-physically or digitally.
What does that mean specifically? The gold points can be used to get a discount on purchases in the eShop. Your gold point account now no longer grows, so the discount for upcoming purchases can no longer be increased.
Is the redemption still possible?Yes. Although there are no more points, your gold points collected do not fall automatically and you can continue to redeem them - up to 12 months after receipt. Also bought after March 25th
Reason for attitude still unclear - but there is a guess
Since Nintendo's own titles in the eShop in particular rarely-and if not particularly strong-are discounted, the gold point program was and is a welcome opportunity to at least save something in the eShop. This option is now no longer necessary.
So far, Nintendo has not justified this measure, which is why many fans were quite perplexed at the announcement. It is unclear whether the company will start a similar program in the future.
In any case, the time would be ideal. Finally, Nintendo presented the new Switch 2 console in detail in Nintendo Direct in early April. The announcement of a completely renewed or completely fresh loyalty program would at least not completely surprise us in this context.
Nintendo introduced the gold dot program in 2018, a year after the launch of the Nintendo Switch. It is easy to confuse with the platinum point program, with which you can get points for digital goodies in the My Nintendo Store by completing small missions in games.
However, this program will continue after March 25 and is not affected by the attitude.
What do you think: Will Nintendo introduce a successor program on April 2nd or for Switch 2?
