Pokémon TCG Pocket: These are currently the strongest decks in the “Mysterious Islands” expansion

With Mysterious Islands there is also a change to the Pokémon TCG Pocket meta.

has been expanded to include 68 different maps (+18 variants) – all thanks to the new “Mysterious Islands” booster pack. Thanks to the new cards, there are already some new metadecks that you can now try out and play. You can find out what they look like and how strong they really are here.

There are currently three new decks emerging or at least adaptations of existing decks that you should try out with the new cards:

Celebi ex-Deck

You need these cards:

  • 2x Celebi-ex
  • 2x Serpifeu
  • 2x Efosera
  • 2x Superroyal
  • 1x Moruda
  • 2x Professor's Research
  • 2x Pokéball
  • 1x X-Initiative
  • 2x potion
  • 2x Sabrina
  • 2x Erika (or 1x Leaf and only 1x Erika)

This makes the deck particularly strong: The Celebi ex deck is the only one that only relies on new Pokémon apart from the trainer cards. The synergy between Celebi ex and Serpiroyal ensures that every Energy on a Grass-type Pokemon counts twice. So after just two energy you already have four coin tosses, after three energy you already have six coin tosses and so on for the Celebi ex attack.

In addition, you can use Moruda as a strong basic tank to build up Celebi and Serpiroyal in the background. The only thing holding the deck back currently is that the card buildup can be a little slow, especially if you draw Celebi too late.

Death ex & Mew ex-Deck

You need these cards:

  • 1x Death ex
  • 1x Mew ex
  • 2x Trasla
  • 2x Kirlia
  • 2x Guardevoir
  • 2x Professor's Research
  • 2x Pokéball
  • 2x X-Initiative
  • 2x potion
  • 2x Sabrina
  • 1x John
  • 1x newbie adventurer

This makes the deck particularly strong: Basically it's just an extension of the already existing deck. But Mew is extremely strong thanks to the move Genom Hacking and can defeat many Pokémon before they can use their strongest attacks.

In terms of gameplay and structure, not much changes with the deck. It's still about getting Gardevoir and then quickly getting psychic energy on your Mewtwo. Now you are even more flexible with the Mew than before.

Misty-Deck mit Aquana

You need these cards:

  • 2x Sterndu
  • 2x Starmie ex
  • 2x Arktos ex
  • 1x Evoli
  • 1x Aquana (Mysterious Islands)
  • 2x Professor's Research
  • 2x Pokéball
  • 1x X-Initiative (oder 1x Leaf)
  • 2x potion
  • 2x Misty
  • 2x Sabrina
  • 1x Giovanni (or 1x Red Card or 1x X Initiative)

This makes the deck particularly strong: Of course, like all other Water decks, it's all about Misty and successful coin flips. Even with Mysterious Islands, this tactic still remains in the game's meta.

But now there is another Pokémon that you can take with you, for example to counteract your opponent's Sabrina tactics or to be able to exchange Pokémon better. Because with the new Aquana you can withdraw water energy from your Pokémon on the bench as often as you like during your turn and use it on your active Pokémon.

The variant given here is just one of many. Thanks to Misty, you can actually play any Water-ex Pokémon, as it's all about getting energy on the Pokémon as quickly as possible.

What about the rest of the decks? There are also other cards from the new expansion that can certainly have their uses. Above all, these would be the new Kokowei, which is a good counter to the Serpiroyal/Celebi ex strategy, as well as the Tauros,.

However, you can add these cards to a deck rather than building a deck around them. The other ex-cards like Gyarados, Tauboss and Aerodactyl have yet to show their potential, but they haven't immediately caught on like the decks above.

What do you think of the new cards? Are you tired of the new Celebi meta yet?
