The current generation of Pokémonhas struggled with some severe performance problems since its release in November 2022. In addition to stuttering frame rates, crashes and bugs are also constant companions in the Paldea region. Could that change on the Nintendo Switch 2?
This hope emerged in the community shortly after the announcement of Nintendo's new console. There is currently hardly any official information about hardware performance, but the new Switch should definitely have significantly more to offer than its predecessor.

Hope for more FPS and fewer bugs
Many fans on Reddit are now expressing the wish that the current generation with better hardware should, above all, run more smoothly. The sometimes slow frame rate comes into play, for example, when you cover a lot of distance in a short time while riding.
“The thing I'm hoping for most is that the framerate no longer drops when I ride Miraidon,” reads one comment. Another user even notes that he hasn't touched the extensions yet because the performance leaves a lot to be desired.
"I want to play the DLCs, but I'm just not ready to deal with the crashes or my character falling through the floor like on the regular Switch."

However, there are also doubts as to whether faster hardware would actually solve the problems. Many comments tend to suspect that the cause of the poor performance could lie in the game's code and is not necessarily due to poor technology.
Emulators or Switch consoles overclocked via hack, on which crimson and purple can at least run at higher frame rates, are already showing that it can definitely help, as several users note. However, faster hardware without additional patches should have no influence on some of the bugs, glitches and pop-ups.

How realistic is the better performance on the Switch 2?
Basically, the mixed opinions from the community reflect reality quite well. At this point, not much is known about the built-in hardware of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its practical use.
Among other things, we don't yet know whether there will be a 'boost mode' for backwards-compatible games like the PS5 Pro. This ensures that the additional power of the console can also be used in older games without the need for a special patch.
We know an example of this with the release version of Cyberpunk 2077. Here, the PS4 version, which was almost unplayable at the time, didn't run completely perfectly on the backwards compatible PS5, but it ran much better and more smoothly, as the faster hardware could be used for far more fps .
Nintendo could also forego such a mode for compatibility reasons. Then crimson and purple would probably run the same as on the first Switch. However, the chances of an fps boost are good, as the same hardware suppliers are used again and the Switch 2 is likely to be technically very similar to the original.
However, poor engine optimization could also cause the jerky performance in the two Pokémon games. Then the games wouldn't run completely smoothly on the new Switch, but they would still run better with 'Boost Mode'.
So it remains to be seen whether and how Nintendo can help the two games with an fps boost feature or whether Game Freak may have to release a “Switch 2 patch” in order to take full advantage of the upcoming console.
