While usat the beginning of the month with the first major addonanother big action role-playing game release is coming this year. We're talking about, which was originally scheduled to go into early access on November 15th.
However, this date has now been postponed, but we still don't have to wait much longer.
This causes the shift
The early access release of Path of Exile 2 should actually start in a good two weeks, todayhowever, Jonathan Rogers piped up, game director of the ARPG, spoke up and announced that the team needed a little more time.
The new date was December 6th, so we only have to wait another three weeks before we can plunge into the monster clunking.
The reason given by Rogers is that the team needs more time to link the respective account systems from Path of Exile 1 and 2. As Grinding Gear Games has promised in the past, we should be able to use all the microtransactions from Part 1 in the sequel and in order for this to work smoothly, the team needs the additional three weeks. Here is an excerpt from his message:
"[...] It's not really the game itself that we're behind on. It's a bunch of server-side infrastructure work that took a lot longer than we expected.
One of the key promises we've made is that all microtransactions will work in both Path of Exile I and II. To achieve this, we need to integrate the account systems not only for Path of Exile I and II, but also for the console realms.
That meant we had to change a lot of things. Not only do we have to create a bunch of new systems, but we also have to ensure that only old data is backwards compatible with them.
And when you start migrating databases that are so old and contain so much data, you run into all sorts of strange demons.
How can multiple accounts have the same name? How do multiple accounts get the same email address? Why do multiple accounts have the same Steam ID? Why is this person's account name just random gibberish that can't even be deciphered?
We have to do everything perfectly so that no one loses anything they paid for and so that no one loses their account. Since we're changing all the backend code, we need to do a lot of testing at the same time to make sure the whole thing doesn't break when the large number of players we expect at launch arrive. [...]"
Of course, three more weeks isn't the end of the world, especially if it helps the game start as smoothly as possible. Path of Exile 2 will now be released on December 6th for Playstation 5, Xbox Series and on the PC via Steam and EPIC in Early Access.
Are you looking forward to the ARPG or is the very complex genre representative not for you? Tell us in the comments!
