Mangas come in all sorts of forms and editions. They are often 2-in-1 volumes or come with a stylish slipcase. Sometimes extras such as pendants or bookmarks with a special edition of a manga are given away - rarely are there also hardcover books.
A One Piece fan wanted exactly that: a hardcover for his favorite Shonen series and since it didn't exist yet, he simply made it himself. He gave the first volume of One Piece a complete makeover and now the community wants this idea to be officially adopted by Shonen Jump's publisher Shueisha.
Subtle, yet impressive
Reddit user xkokonati published a post on the One Piece subreddit in which he or she proudly presented a homemade cover for the first One Piece manga.

According to the fan, the person still had an incorrectly printed edition of the first volume lying around and wanted to rebind it with a hardcover. However, after a few designs for the new cover, xkokonati decided to work with a simpler and subtle design.
The post shows the result: The hardcover is decorated with golden waves and a golden barrel on a white background. The fan also added the title of the series in the appropriate gold font and Eiichiro Oda's name. Inside, the band is decorated with the Gum-Gum devil fruit pattern.
“When it's over, I want One Piece to re-release with a hardcover in this style. I adore Oda’s covers, but this looks exquisite.”

The fan is showered with praise under the post and many users are asking for more volumes in this format. Finally, once the story ends, the manga could release a Collector's Edition or make it into anthologies that combine several volumes.
So there is already a demand for One Piece hardcover manga, and with this post the fan has confirmed that once again. Shueisha, the publisher behind Shonen Jump, could definitely take a leaf out of this and possibly make it a reality in the future.
