A few weeks ago, Monster Hunter fans were able to take a look at the gameplay of the upcoming spin-off in an open betathrow. While the feedback was mostly positive, there were also a few points of criticism. In particular, hitting with the weapons just felt too lax. This was primarily due to a missing feature, which will return with the release.
Monster Hunter Wilds brings back Hitstop
Specifically, this is about the so-called hitstop - basically a short pause in the attack animation that is intended to emphasize the force behind a punch. In the Wilds beta, the hitstop for many weapon attacks was either shortened or even eliminated completely.
This made attacks feel more like cutting through tofu rather than the blade colliding with a monster -.
But the good news is that the developers behind Monster Hunter Wilds have heard the beta feedback and are bringing back the usual hitstop of older parts.
We could already notice this with the Hammer during the recent game event. You can see what it looks like in the preview video:

The development team also seems happy that they can bring Hitstop back. The fact that it was still missing in the beta was probably primarily due to feedback from Monster Hunter World. This is what director Yuya Tokuda reports in an interview with PC Gamer (viaGamesRadar):
"Some of the adjustments to the hitstop [in the beta] were obviously intentional, some we hadn't yet implemented due to the game's settings. When Monster Hunter World came out, many players from other countries complained that the hitstop was way too strong and would make playing difficult.
So it's very positive feedback for us that this time the players who took part in the beta test say that they miss the hitstop that they know from previous installments."
The director also explains that the weapon feel will be further refined before release. We were also able to talk to the development team at the preview event and learned that four weapons in particular should be reworked even more: namely the lance, morph axe, sword and shield, and the insect glaive.
Are you a fan of the hitstop from older games or did you prefer the weapons in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta?
