Lou's Lagoon was played: If Captain Balu and his daring crew were your thing in the 90s, you should definitely read this preview

We played Lou's Lagoon and tell you our impressions.

"Bambambam Badam Badam Bam Bam" echoed in the 90s from some television devices when the cartoon seriesCaptain Balu and his daring crewFlicked over the tube monitor. If you were fans of the cartoon adventure or still be, you should be the upcoming third person adventureonPC, Switch und PlayStationBe sure to take a closer look. We took a look at the demo and desire for more, but also many open questions.

developerTiny Roar from HamburgThe childhood memories of Balu took a role model and built its own game from the setting of the template. You fly around with a yellow aircraft between the tropical islands and make yourself a name with a parcel service. In addition, you explore the little islands, meet animal characters, collect resources and build up the partially destroyed game world.

Take a look at the trailer here for a first impression:

That's what it's about in Lou's Lagoon

Before we start, we start in rather simpleCharaktereditorAnd create a pilot. Shortly afterwards we start looking for Uncle Lou and get in touch for his flying package service. But a violent storm hit the colorful island world hard and there is no trace of the relationship.

After our arrival, Kumpel Hefti will take command and apply to repair the damaged company aircraft. We take care of the necessary resources and get a kind ofVacuum cleanerpressed into the hand.

With the Swirler 2000, your materials and ingredients soak up.

We run or climb over the starters andCollect resourceslike wood, fruits or metal scrap. In addition, we can repair objects destroyed by the storm such as impassable stairs, which makes new areas accessible to us. While straying aroundwe meet NPCS, for which we have to find objects in side quests or have to cook at a stove.

The full version also leaves us oursBuild your own home and decorate. We have to wait and see how extensive the possibilities are. This was not yet possible in the demo.

The plane is the actual star of the game. If we have completed the first repair, we go down from the island and off to the air. The control is extremely arcady and simple. Both axles can be inverted on request. Even with the greatest efforts, we did not manage to rush off and the landing approach to an island also works with a simple push of a button.

Because it's so beautiful, you can see the intro of the cult series here again:

Fly to win

It is fun through the ventilation and is loosened up by small boosts, flying resource balloons and skill challenges. However, the demo was basically over, because the approach to another island already meant the end of the score.

In the finished game we willAlso expand the aircraftcan. We may have to upgrade before we can reach certain areas through tornados and Co. The machine can also be customized with paintings.

Incidentally, the air pirates known from the Balu series are not available as an opponent faction. Lou's Lagoon iscompletely peacefulAnd do not require combative arguments from you. Instead, uncomplicated exploring and positive vibes are in the foreground.

What can already be read from the demo is that the entire game world appears quite large. We were not allowed to land anywhere, but the dimensions of the upper world look quite impressive. Depending on how large and numerous the areas that can be entered, there is plenty of space to explore.

Still many question marks

Actually, the main and a side quest would have led us to the big city of Tanglebloom Town, which we unfortunately could not enter. Many features were only indicated in the demo, but were denied us for the time being.

For example, there will be fishing, we have discovered a shop for action and deserved "Style Points" in a flight challenge, but we have not yet been used. Our resource vacuum cleaner can obviously be upgraded. At the beginning, the device overheats quite quickly and therefore does not last long enough to reduce all materials.

The world is also populated by cute animals. The start vacuum cleaner can "tap" the peaceful four-legged friends, but is still too weak to pull them into the household appliance. What exactly we can do with animals and their resources later remains a secret. At the moment we can only guess how exactly Lou's Lagoon wants to keep us across the planned season.

Technically, our version on the PC was largely round, but we also have problems. In some places, for example, textures have not loaded or the character wedged between objects.

In addition, the standard dual jump was very hooky because you had to keep a strangely long break between the two jumps with an amazingly precise time window. As a result, it was more like spaming the space bar. After all, this is largely small, which should be remedied.

Conclusion of the editorial team

Maximilian Franke

The demo from Lou's Lagoon was fun and left me with the desire for more. This is basically good for the time being and I am definitely looking forward to lifting the plane again later.

However, there are still many open questions that are not answered with the demo. How extensive does crafting become? Which upgrades can I unlock? What devices and skills do I find in the course of the game? Is the story good? What do the other islands and larger cities look like? How does my aircraft change with new components?

All of this still remains unclear, but I am definitely interested in finding it out. The performance was already ok on the PC. If the technology in the end does not thwart the bill, Lou's Lagoon could be a fun cozy game and your desires after the golden period of the 90s kinders of children breastfeed when your fan of Captain Balu is.
