New Sony title has fewer Steam players than Concord when released and that could be the reason

LEGO Horizon Adventures does not achieve high player numbers on Steam.

The first LEGO game with a Sony license was released two weeks ago.roughly tells the story of Horizon Zero Dawn and packs the world of the PS4 original into a linear co-op game that is also aimed at a younger target group.

SeaSteamdb.infohave since publicationa maximum of 602 people at the same timeplayed. That's less than the almost legendary multiplayer flop. The Sony shooter “at least” managed 697 simultaneous games and was canceled a short time later.

More on the Concord debacle:

What about other LEGO titles on Steam?

Unlike Concord, for example, LEGO Horizon Adventures is a single-player game and therefore does not rely on a large player base.

In terms of the maximum number of players, Aloy's new offshoot ranks relatively unspectacularly among other LEGO titles on Steam. The big outlier is by a gigantic margin. Played here for the release in April 2022an impressive 80,000 fansat the same time. After that, the top values of other LEGO games drop massively.

Here are a few other examples of the building block adventures on Steam and theirmaximum simultaneous number of playerssince publication:

  • LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga:82.517
  • LEGO Marvel Super Heroes:5.953
  • LEGO Lord of the Rings:5.045
  • LEGO DC Super-Villains:866
  • LEGO City Undercover:833
  • LEGO Harry Potter Collection:620
  • LEGO Batman 2:523
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean:468
  • LEGO Harry Potter Year 5-7:326

Depending on the size of the underlying franchise, there are clear differences when it comes to the number of players on Steam. LEGO Horizon Adventures is not one of the top spots on the list so far.

One reason for the partially low Steam numbers for the LEGO brands could be that theyounger target group and the couch co-op approachMany LEGO titles are more likely to be played on consoles like the Nintendo Switch. Unsurprisingly, Horizon Adventures was also released on Nintendo's hybrid, although that is untypical for Sony. An important part of the potential buyers is not reflected in the Steam numbers.

The ratings also cast their shadow

However, that shouldn't obscure the fact that the game received a mixed reception. Aloy's toy excursion is currently listed on Metacritic71 points(via Metacritic). The user ratings are even lower at 5.6 out of 10. The Steam reviews are also at a meager 57 percent.

In comparison to the open-world original, criticism is often leveled at the lack of ambition and the strictly linear level design. We had uncomplicated fun with Horizon Adventures, but would have liked Guerrilla Games and Studio Hobo to get more out of the actually chic toy world. In any case, the mixed ratings from the press and fans will have hardly helped the game.

The originalHorizon Zero Dawn Complete EditionTo date, over 2,600 people play on Steam every day, with oneRecord of over 56,000 active players at the same time. Aloy's popularity in the Steam community probably played less of a negative role. Not to mention Sony's marketing budget, which really pumped up the advertising drum.

The recently publishedHowever, it was weak in comparison and has so far only achievedmaximum 2,500 peopleat the same time. It's a very similar story with Sony's recent PC releaseout of.

There are currently no official sales figures for LEGO Horizon Adventures for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The extent to which Baustein-Aloy was able to celebrate success there can only be speculated on.

What do you think: Do the Steam numbers surprise you or do they fit the picture well for you?
