This is the future of Hogwarts Legacy.

is a great success story for developer Avalanche and publisher Warner with 24 million games sold to date. Here in the article we want to keep you up to date on the status of a successor.

A notice:As we receive new information, we will update the article. So you'll always be up to date on the future of Hogwarts Legacy here.

Last update on November 10th: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment boss David Haddad has commented on Hogwarts Legacy 2. So we now know that there will be a crossover with the upcoming HBO series about Harry Potter. This suggests that we could expect a more modern setting this time.

Has Hogwarts Legacy 2 already been announced?

It is not yet officially known whether Hogwarts Legacy will receive a direct sequel. Warner Bros. Games has already confirmed that the brand will continue in the future.

Hogwarts Legacy planned as a "long-term franchise".

Warner President David Haddad already confirmed in February 2023 that Hogwarts Legacy isn't overInterview mit Varietybetrayed. However, it is still a bit too early to talk about a direct sequel after this statement. After all, we could also initially expect a spin-off or a prequel.

However, it is very likely that Warner will release a large, new spin-off in the wake of its success.

Further note for continuation:In addition to Haddad's statement, there is also oneofficial job advertisementFrom developer Avalanche it is clear that fresh personnel are already being sought for the studio's next big project.

There is one in July 2024further job advertisementsurfaced looking for a senior producer at Avalanche. This person would then work on a new open world action RPG. That sounds very suspiciously like Hogwarts Legacy 2.

What could Hogwarts Legacy 2 be about?

While we haven't seen anything about the game yet, there's now a detail that gives some insight into the game.

Link to new HBO series: Hogwarts Legacy 2 should be linked significantly more with other media. So the game could probably be set in a more modern time, for that matterto enable. The latter was at least confirmed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment boss David Haddad.

Will Hogwarts Legacy 2 be a live service game?

In the recent past one also made onethe round that resulted from the failed launch ofas a live service game caused quite a stir. This is what it says specifically:

Instead of releasing a console game that's done all at once, how do we develop a game around, say, Harry Potter or Hogwarts Legacy that is a live service in whose world people live and work and build and play, on an ongoing basis?

An unusual statement:The fact that Warner is obviously considering a GAAS approach here after the success story of Hogwarts Legacy and the failure of Suicide Squad is very surprising.

As of now, Hogwarts Legacy 2 should not be a live service game. The job advertisements from July 2024 do not ask about experience with MMOs, live service games, online connections and other terms from the game as a service world. As a result, it is unlikely that Avalanche's next game will rely on a service approach.

Deleted features are coming to Hogwarts Legacy 2

It's no secret that developer Avalanche wasn't able to implement all of the big features that were once planned for Hogwarts Legacy (viaGamesRadar). Among other things, a reputation and house points system were deleted, but a morale system similar to Mass Effect was also originally planned.

What about Quidditch? The famous broom sport is said to bealso belonged to the original part of the planning and is said to have been discarded later. We now know that a mobile offshoot is in the works:

The deleted features mentioned above, especially a greater focus on everyday school life including house points and a moral system, are also very popular with you,

Understandable, because the role-playing aspect in particular is one of the biggest weaknesses of Hogwarts Legacy and this is where a successor would still have plenty of room for improvement. There is no information yet as to whether we will get these features in a second part.

What do you think, what happens after Hogwarts Legacy? Can we expect live service and what features does a successor definitely have to have?
