The 'free driving' mode of Mario Kart World delivers 'hundreds of missions' and collective stuff - that is everything in the Open World

With Mario & Co. we soon cruise through an open world.

While the Nintendo Direct at the beginning of April, in which the Switch 2 was introduced more precisely, the new and exclusiveas a launch title. But it was only through a new show case that was just about the fun racer that we got a deeper insight into the game. This also includes what we can do in the Open World away from the races.

The first Mario Kart Open World is not an empty backdrop

In the new Mario Kart-how could it be otherwise-especially races against other AI opponents or friends. But there will also be balloon battles or time trips. The open world, which we can use and explore in 'free ride' mode (Free Roam)-are brand new-also from route to route.

Nintendo not only wants to let this open world deteriorate as a lobby backdrop, but also fill with content that should invite us to explore. The whole thing reminds us very much of Forza Horizon 5.

During our own Mario Kart World Direct, Nintendo has revealed a little more about what we can do in the open world away from the races:

  • P switch:In the world there are blue switches that we can activate missions to improve our driving skills. This ranges from collecting blue coins to challenging sections of the route, which we have to master under time pressure.
  • Hidden coins:As we drive around the world, we can also stumble across coins like the Peach Medallion. It is not yet known whether this is just simple collectibles or you still have an effect.
  • Hidden? The show case has not yet shown what the question mark fields do in detail. But this is also a switch in the world that either challenge us or have something collected.
  • Photo mode:For example, if we want to capture stunts or other moments, we can use the photo mode.

If you want to know more about what was still unveiled during the Mario Kart World Showcase, you will find a summary here:

Free Roam im Multiplayer:You can not only explore the world in the 'free journey' mode, the multiplayer is also supported. While you can play in split screen mode with a switch 2 with up to four players, you can play a total of eight players with a maximum of eight players-you need your own consoles in the same network.

Are there quick trips?Hardly any open world can do without a quick travel function. This is also the case with Mario Kart World. You can simply travel back and forth between the routes.

Incidentally, the world is also populated by NPCs. There is also a day-night cycle and weather.

So far what do you think of 'free travel' mode? Do you think that the Open World of Mario Kart World can irritate you enough?
