Two of the biggest video game adaptations this year are definitely the seriesFalloutandArcanebe. What both series have in common is that actress Ella Purnell takes on a leading role based on Lucy MacLean or Jinx.
If you were as impressed by Purnell's acting performance as I was, we unfortunately have bad news for you: she wants to stay away from video game adaptations for now.
Ella Purnell wants to work less on video game adaptations in the future
An der Londoner Comic ConMCM x EGX 2024(viaPop verses), actress Ella Purnell spoke about her involvement in the two successful video game adaptations Fallout and Arcane.
While she doesn't know exactly how she landed leading roles in the successful adaptations, she will probably look for roles without connections to the gaming world in the future.
"Here's the truth - and I feel guilty saying it - but I'm not a gamer and I don't know how I ended up with two adaptations that are both good."

“I think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now because otherwise I'll experience typecasting. Otherwise I'll be the video game girl. There are worse things than that, I suppose.”
Typecastingis a film industry term for when actors always get a certain role in different works and thus correspond to a certain “type”, which led to the naming of the phenomenon. You can probably think of a few stars that you see again and again in similar roles.
If actors are only cast for a certain type at some point, they run the risk of ending up in a dead end. So does Purnell: Video game adaptations may have become more popular in recent years, but whether it's more than just a trend remains to be seen. In addition to successful series such as Arcane and Fallout, this year there were, for example, the-Film also had failures.
We can understand why Ella Purnell doesn't want to be seen as the video game girl if video game adaptations become potentially rarer again.
You won't have to do without Ella Purnell in video game adaptations any time soon. Filming of the second Fallout season began in November 2024 and we expect a reunion with protagonist Lucy MacLean:
In recent years, Ella Purnell has not exclusively devoted herself to video game adaptations. Just recently the television seriesSweetpeaCompleted broadcast, in which Purnell takes on the role of a young woman named Rhiannon Lewis, who doesn't exactly have an easy life.
After her father's death, her former bully Julia Blenkingsopp, of all people, moves near her and wants to sell her father's house. This awakens a desire for murder in the shy Rhiannon, who in the future takes her life into her own hands.
How do you like Ella Purnell's performance in Arcane and Fallout? Would you like to see her in more video game adaptations?
