"Beautiful view!" or "Attention, invisible wall" - messages like these, which other players leave us on the floor, have enjoyed cult status in the Souls community for years and belong to Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc. just add to it. Because in the difficult adventures that we mostly have to go on on our own, they remind us that we are not alone and that other people experience the same things as us.
Such messages provide us with important clues about secrets, hidden paths and more, and sometimes they also troll us by making us gullible to jump into abysses. But that's also part of Souls. FromSoftware's action RPGs can be nasty and mean, and so can the messages from other players.
No news in Nightreign
But that's exactly what we need to do in the upcoming Elden Ring spin-offwaive. Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki reveals this in an interviewIGN Japan(translated byGamesRadar):
You can still see the ghosts of other players, but the ability to leave messages has been removed.
That may sound like a shame at first, but it makes sense in terms of Nightreign's gameplay principle. The rogue-like focuses more on fighting and less on exploring the game world. And in an in-game day that lasts around 40 minutes, we will hardly have time for anything else besides fighting, so nice (or mean) messages to other players will fall flat.
The missing message system is ultimately just another reminder that Nightreign is not "Elden Ring 2", but a spin-off that follows a different gameplay formula.
What is Elden Ring Nightreign?
Elden Ring Nightreign is not a sequel to FromSoftware's popular open world adventure, but rather a spin-off that relies on a different gameplay formula.
In Nightreign you can expect a roguelike adventure with a small pinch of battle royale, that you compete either solo or in co-op with three other players.
The principle of the game:You fight your way through an alternative version of the Limgrave area, which we already know from the main game. You defeat enemies and collect loot as a deadly shroud gradually closes in and shrinks the area. Once the veil has reached the middle, you face the final boss of the passage.
Elden Ring Nightreign will be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
