Normally, online shopping should actually be relaxed. For example, we order a PS5 and don't even have to get up from the couch to get it. Ideally, the delivery will arrive at our home soon and all we have to do is open the door. But in reality, the whole thing is unfortunately becoming increasingly strenuous, as this case is one of many.
That's what it's about:Because the PS5 was almost unavailable for a long time, very few people bought it in the traditional way in the store. Instead, a lot of things are ordered online and apart from unnecessary packaging waste and CO₂ emissions, this is of course also a very nice and practical thing.
At least if everything works out.But especially in the USA (okay, here too, but less so) strange errors and mix-ups have been occurring more and more frequently in recent years. Here, for example, a person on Reddit reports that they ordered a PS5 and were simply sent a carpet instead.

How can this happen? You would think that a PS5 and a carpet are so different from each other that confusion should be practically impossible. The weight and shape of the box alone should set alarm bells ringing in anyone's mind and they will then notice that something is wrong.
The dog is probably buried there:For example, one reports in the commentsPerson who works at WalMartwhat bad software and outrageous algorithm suggestions she has to deal with.
The computer regularly suggests the biggest nonsense that she should send as an alternative to sold-out items. For example, clothes in a different size and for men instead of women, which of course doesn't help at all.
Because the software is getting worse and worse(some time ago it was still possible to label proposed alternatives as unsuitable, which is no longer possible), the result also suffers. That doesn't explain this particular case, but it does at least explain strange replacement goods for subscription orders.
All's well that ends well:The birthday person who ordered the PS5 and received the carpet instead was able to convince Amazon customer service that he had actually ordered something completely different but didn't get it. This time his PS5 really needs to be shipped, but he also has to send the carpet back.
