Nobody likes making mistakes. But sometimes we have to go through it in order to learn from it for the future. This applies to real life as well as. Well, maybe not to the same extent, but you get the idea!
At least that's our explanation for why no one warned a poor player when he created his girlfriend as his dream companion in the character editor. Anyone who has finished the game should know why this is a rather dubious idea.
Spoiler alert! This is about a big story reveal at the end of Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3. If you haven't played this far, you'll be spoiled.
BG3 fans see players making (potentially) huge mistakes and initially make fun of them
A video appeared in the Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit that shows a seemingly cute gesture: A BG3 player is currently creating his dream visitor and is clearly trying to recreate his girlfriend.

Considering that the game initially asks this character what you're dreaming about, that seems pretty sweet. But anyone who has finished Baldur's Gate 3 knows that there is more behind it. The dream visitor is definitely an important character who is always at our side.
After we leave the shadow-cursed lands at the end of Act 2, his true identity is revealed: he actually goes by the name of the Emperor and is a mind flayer who sometimes manipulates people for his own purposes - even if we depend on ours Decisions can enter into a useful partnership (and even sexual relationship) with him even after the revelation.
Accordingly, it is hardly surprising that the BG3 community has some funny and even nasty comments on the video. The thread itself is titled:
"The guy has made his girlfriend his dream visitor, he's in for a surprise"
Other comments joke, for example"'Would you still love me if I were a worm?' She'll find out."or"Oh, the betrayal will be really hard."
There isn't too much pity for the player in the comments - and who knows, maybe he'll even like the reveal in the game, tentacles and all. We definitely don't judge or condemn it. User obiru seems to have a very similar thought process and jokes in the comments:"Plot twist: It's his second run".
Unfortunately, we don't know if this is actually the case or how the reveal scene in BG3 played out for the player. The video itself seems to be a few months old, but the original source is unfortunately missing from the Reddit post.
The player may have already completed several more runs in Baldur's Gate 3. Whether he still models his dream visitor after his girlfriend... well, we'll leave that to the imagination.
Would you warn a friend if you saw them do something like this on the first try?
