In June, Ubisoft revealed the mystery behind the next Anno and told us where the building strategy series will take us next. InAs a city holder, we end up in the Roman Empire and of course we also bring innovations with us. Here in the article we summarize everything we already know about the game.
An important info:As Ubisoft reveals more information in the coming months, we will update the article accordingly. You are on GamePro when it comes to Anno 117, so you are always up to date.
Release: When will Anno 117 be released?
- Period of publication:2025
We don't yet know a specific release date. According to Ubisoft, however, it should2025go off. However, don't expect a release in the first few months of the new year. The Mainz studio only completed pre-production and started the core development in mid-2023.

Platforms: Will Anno 117 be released for consoles and PC?
- Confirmed platforms:PS5, Xbox Series X/S und PC
What's really great is that Ubisoft Mainz is already bringing the new offshoot to the current generation and PC when it's released.
We remember: For Anno 1800, console owners had to wait a full four years after its initial release - but it was more than worth it given the great port for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S..
Setting: What historical period is it set in?
- Age:Pax Romana (ca. 27 BC bis ca. 180 AD)
In Anno 117 we're heading to theRoman Empire, more precisely in the Pax Romana period, which lasted around 200 to 250 years.
Interesting fact:Of course, Ubisoft Mainz didn't choose the year 117 arbitrarily. Under Emperor Trajan, the Roman Empire had its greatest territorial expansion this year, from today's Spain in the west to Turkey in the east. As is typical for a series, the sum of the numbers of each year must of course also result in the number 9 (Anno 1602, Anno 1404,...).
The so-called Waders form the first Celtic population level.
Where is construction taking place?
In Anno 117 we can choose between two regions at the start of the game. So we can either live our city inBroad(today's surroundings of Rome) or inAlbion(Celtic-populated Britain).
Gameplay: New level ups for our population
We are currently still in a very early phase of unveiling Anno 117. Ubisoft Mainz hasn't really looked deeply into the cards yet.
It is clear that nothing will change in the basic grid structure of the series. But what will change, and here we come to a very interesting gameplay innovation, is level ups ordevelopment potential of our population.
Celtic tradition vs. Romanization
Ubisoft Mainz has so far explained the new tier system for our population based on the Albion region. Here we can develop the first Celtic population level, the so-called Waders, differently and thus either Romanize or continue to maintain the Celtic tradition.
This then creates either Romanized traders (mercators) or traditional Celtic blacksmiths. The system gives us significantly more freedom than before.
By the way, here you can see how the buildings change as a result of the election:
We can develop a simple Wader hut in two directions.
However, it is still unclear whether we also have a choice for the second population level.
If you later want to change your mind when building your city and switch from the Romanesque to the traditional Celtic way (or vice versa), that is possible. In order for your initial choice to be significant, the change should be associated with high costs. However, what they look like is still a secret.
That's all the information about Anno 117 so far. We're very excited to see what innovations will be revealed in the coming months.
Are you already looking forward to Anno 117 and how suitable is Pax Romana as a new setting for the series?
