“Everything has gotten worse”: Season 1 changes to CoD Warzone are upsetting to many fans

Many players are quite dissatisfied with the current status of CoD Warzone.

The big one was on November 14thforandpublished. Among other things, numerous new content such as maps and weapons were announced, but also, for example, an integration of the movement mechanics from Black Ops 6 into Warzone.

You would actually think that season updates bring improvements, at least in most cases. But a look at social networks quickly reveals that Season 1, especially in Call of Duty Warzone, hasn't gotten any better - on the contrary.

Warzone has some problems right now - and many of them came with Season 1

There are a lot of threads in the corresponding Reddit complaining about the adjustments in the free2play shooter. And the two Warzone veterans from the GamePro editorial team – Rae and Chris – are also quite dissatisfied with the current status of the game. Below you will find a list of the current problems with CoD Warzone:

  • Loadouts keep getting deleted.
  • The adjustments onUser interface or the displaysare found to be very annoying, especially the glowing displays for weapons or mission objectives.
  • The new movement system means that Warzone is now"wooden"feels.
  • Bugged settingsensure that changes are not adopted.
  • Tutorials that appear take up far too much screen space.
  • Reduced shield plates to 6, killstreaks and medkits can no longer be stacked.
  • Sound problems, such as footsteps that are clearly too loud or parachute noises.
  • Performance drops on the PC.

There are also other annoyances such as unnecessary distance information over the heads of your own team members.

Anyway:The new Resurgence map "Area 99" has been praised several times, but that hardly changes the judgment of many fans. The word “disappointing” can be read many times. Redditor TheTimeIsChow puts it this way:

"The contrast between the Warzone of the past and what we have today seems extremely stark."

So the situation is serious:If the developers don't fix this as quickly as possible via updates, some players are likely to turn their backs on the free2play shooter in the near future.

Below you will find Rae and Chris' assessments of the current Warzone situation.

Warzone is the part of Call of Duty multiplayer that I want most year after year, since the battle royale principle has been around since(back then in the form of Blackout) was at the very top of the multiplayer throne for me. This year I'll probably be distancing myself for the first time, at least as long as Treyarch or Raven Software don't do a lot of patching.

The constant shortage of ammunition and plates slows things down massively and takes a lot of momentum out of the rounds, especially towards the end of the matches. In the last few minutes I want to shoot my way onto the winner's podium, not search the floor for urgently needed resources!

In addition, there is an audio mix that is difficult to interpret and a lack of depth, as the lack of inventory means I can't use gadgets and additional grenades.

All in all, I've never had as much fun with a CoD battle royale as I do now and I hope that the community's feedback is taken into account so that the return to Verdansk and thus my favorite Warzone map in March 2025 doesn't end up being a crash landing becomes.

I've been playing Warzone pretty much since it came out. Verdansk, Caldera, Al Mazrah, Ashika, Vondel, Urzikstan, Fortune's Keep, Rebirth – you have been able to find me on all maps so far. I would now like to say that the time for Area 99 has now come. The latest Warzone map is like a cool mix of Area 51 and Nuketown, one of my favorite maps in CoD.

And I would probably say exactly that if it weren't for... well, everything else.

Don't get me wrong: Area 99 is a cool map that I would love to have lots of heated BR battles on. The problem is that the introduction of the new Battle Royale map wasn't the only change that came with Season 1 of Call of Duty Black Ops 6. It was one of many and the rest can be summarized as: Everything has gotten worse.

Yes, I know that sounds very dramatic, but that's exactly how the decisions made by Treyarch feel. In some cases I can't even tell if they are conscious design decisions or bugs. Why do boxes that are right in front of me suddenly tell me with superfluous displays that they are boxes?

Why do tutorials suddenly pop up again after several 100 hours in the BR, explaining the absolute basics to me and costing my team their lives because they dominate the screen in the middle of a firefight? Why do I keep getting the message that something is 40 meters away from me with an ominous white box that won't go away, only to find out that it's an inconsequential box or task that I never wanted to do? And why the hell do weapons suddenly glow in bright colors so that I can see them from a distance even as I approach? I could go on like this for quite a while.

Many of the changes seem half-baked or even feel like a step backwards. While I might be able to get over (but not condone!) missing loadouts or the lack of inventory, other adjustments just feel ill-conceived and impractical. I don't even get to explore and enjoy the new map because everything else feels too broken. There's just no fun. And that's a damn shame because I was really looking forward to the new season and map.

I hope that Treyarch will make improvements here quickly and add some necessary hotfixes. Otherwise, it looks like I'll have to give up Warzone indefinitely.

And now it's your turn: What do you think about the current state of CoD: Warzone? Are you still enjoying the free2play shooter or do you also think that the Season 1 update has made everything worse?
