WithFor the green riot, including chainsaws and Morgenstern on May 13th on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC off to the Middle Ages, to make all sorts of demons *censored*And then to pull out the * Beeep * with full force.
In order to tell the prehistory of Doom (2016), developer ID software came up with a few new tricks from the story to the gameplay - which have already put a lot of fun with the four -hour alloy. However, what I particularly liked is the versatility of the first person shooter. You can set yourself to the smallest detail.
I could play that:In addition to a rather linear tutorial section, I went to an Atlan mech, on the back of a kite and in one of the new extensive areas-and that on several levels of difficulty.
The story: let's do it briefly ...
In the Dark Ages, demons argent only attack a planet populated by humans on which the “Maykr-Engel” prevails as gods. The Maykr find the hell creatures quite stupid and rush the doom slayer on them.
The Doom Slayer kills the demons. But he doesn't really feel like his divine clients either. What will he do now? Exactly kill!
According to ID software, all of this should be includedclass staged cutscenesto be told what I can confirm with this. They look really chic and you can take a sip from the water panel between the balls.
But now to the gameplay-or as an alternative to the video preview:
A carrier slayer? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that!
"The stoic main character is sluggish and heavy and suddenly beats itself through the hordes of hell in close combat, instead of gliding over the heads of the monsters like a fighter jet and stocking them non -stop with rockets and plasma balls.”
Colleague and Doom Eternal enthusiast Chris have the pace of The Dark Ages, but don't worry, even if the slayer is a good bit more difficult - it is not slow. Our one-man army may no longer be a fighter jet, but a drag racer, who was installed in addition to the driver's seat, and a chainsaw shield sticks to the front spoiler.
With the Shield Dash a group of small demons, we can get out of small demons, get the plasma defense out, push a glory kill in, parry the incoming volleys, die and back into close combat to distribute free surgical “beauty operations” with the morning star.
Apropos Glory Kills:The sparkling finishers are now often carried out by brisk melee attacks. Here ID software has obviously adopted the criticism from the community, which the self -exposed animations have gnawed on the flow. But don't worry, scenes in which demons are torn down the head.
The change of weapons and the mix of close-up and ranged combat are still an integral part of the battles, around which it does not come around it. The different ammunition and health drops known from Eternal, depending on the type of killing, are back. A kill with the fist leaves, for example, to the shotgun, glory kills leave health ... you know the game.
After a tutorial and very gentle entry due to a tutorial, he was back directly, the usual metal flow from Doom, which simply rocks and that, thanks to the sign, has never been so much fun.
The chainsaw was yesterday
I love weapons that I can pee in the face! So, that had to be said once. Since Rune - some people may still know the Nordic action game - there has been nothing better for me.
Two shield campaigns are particularly important:
- Wear opponents shields, we can make them glow. Now let's throw our sign on you, splatters the hell brood in a thousand individual parts.
- While smaller opponents rip off immediately after a shield throw, our sign gets stuck in larger demons and lets the chainsaw rotate sparkled in the wan.
More playful change in the campaign
The Dark Ages completely strokes the multiplayer out of the game, but wants to provide more variety in the campaign. And it is impressive.
- Atlan me-mission:Here I went to the Mech's cockpit, with which I was able to give huge demons a lot of baking. The mission was super linear, very simple and also quite short, but it was visually finest spectacle for in between, in which I felt that I felt the half level.
- Dragon mission:Greetings from Panzer Dragoon. On the back of a giant lizard I fly through a rather compact level and bring demonic flight ships to crash.
I could also one of thePlay missions that are more extensive. They are particularly suitable for two points: more exploration through a more open area, for example to find upgrades for weapons and the slayer themselves, and to bring even bigger battles on the screen.
This also works very well, but I also have to say that Doom is always the best for me when I can dike Demon in linear sections or spaces from Demon.
The mission with the Atlan Mech was quite simple, but all the more spectacular.
However, I have a little fear
The additional variety is good for the game, but small worry lines came to my forehead when playing the dragon and mech mission. Both war devices were definitely a nice loosening of the usual ball, but also not very demanding and mechanically not the core business of ID software - the boys and girls are just the masters of brisk ballery.
If such sections occur too often in the campaign, boredom can quickly arise. Game Director Hugo Martin was able to take the concern a bit in the GamePro interview. The missions should be pure "Pace-Breaker“Being and leaving us a little between the fast action - which is perfectly fine for me. As is well known, the dose makes the poison.
A gimmick for old doom rabbits:You can optionally put the face of the Doom Slayer into the hud as in the old parts. If your goal inserts, the good thing is increasingly moving the face.
A doom for everyone!
We come to my personal highlight of the allusion session and a part that you should definitely read through when youToo fast or why was always too slow.
What doom: The Dark Ages offers in setting options is simply fantastic! Here is a list of how you can adapt the gameplay to your wishes, starting with the levels of difficulty.
- 4 Standard difficulty:While you mutate into an absolute over -god on “light” and all in the bunch of everything, “Standard” is already a nice challenge. However, professionals switch on one level directly and better not stay in one place for a second, otherwise tens of projectiles rattle on you.
- Pandemonium-mode:If the highest level of difficulty is not yet hard enough for you, you can only revive in this mode through found life brands (life sigils). Otherwise it is called Game Over.
- Ultra-Nightmare:Here your Dark Ages transforms into a Permadeath game in which it is only saved after the chapter. The Life Sigils no longer enliven you again, but only heal you.
Difficulty levels are one thing, but you can also extensively individualize the gameplay:
- Fine parade time window:Not a bit of precise parades? Then simply increase on a 100 scale how far before the “perfect time” you can already press the parry button.
- Fine the stun time window:You can adapt the existing time in which you can carry out a glory kill.
- Adjust the game speed and aggressiveness:Is The Dark Ages generally too fast or too slow? Then either the general game speed adapts or adjusts that opposing balls fly faster or more slowly on you. Oh yes, the opponents are generally too aggressive and you need more breaks, you can also set this.
- Increase the drop rate:Leave defeated opponents too little ammunition for your taste and you don't want to constantly switch your weapons? It adapts!
- Adjust damage:You can set how much women you cause as well as the damage you have suffered and the one for your enemies.
Finally, ID software brings an excellent selectionOptions for more accessibilityinto play. Including: among other things:
- Increase target aid
- High contrast mode
- Deactivate motion blur
- Deactivate chromatic aberration
- Deactivate camera shapers
- Set the colors for opponents and ammunition
What The Dark Ages delivers here is exemplary in the genre of the first person shooter and ultimately means that more people enjoy playing-and that completely regardless of whether you are looking for a brutal challenge or just want to snap through demons in the evening.
I and many of you were always a trace too fast and hectic, for colleague Chris and other players, on the other hand, the shooter dream on earth. Now comes the perfect compromise for everyone and that's very fantastic!
