Special - Flop 10: The worst games and biggest disappointments of 2024: Unfortunately not great

In 2024, more games were released than ever before. But between all the top-class blockbusters and indie gems, there were unfortunately also a lot of disappointed expectations, half-baked gameplay grits and flops with an announcement. We really didn't need these 10 games this year.

Platz 10: Concord

No, Concord certainly wasn't that bad. But Sony's hero shooter will probably go down as one of the biggest flops in gaming history and one of the biggest disappointments of the past year. The disappointment couldn't have been that big, because the expectations were never really that great. Even the first gameplay trailer wasn't well received: it was a listless copy of Overwatch without any impulses of its own, the Internet complained. Given the numerous free-to-play competition, the price of 40 euros also received a lot of criticism, especially the in-game shop for microtransactions. The initial situation in Concord was extremely bad and was only getting worse.

With 2,400 players, the beta met with little interest and particularly provoked the trolls, who called it “woke propaganda”. The rest is gaming history: the game only sold 25,000 times worldwide at launch and had a measly 700 players on Steam at its peak. And that with eight years of development and $400 million in production costs. It took less than two weeks for Sony to shut down the game again. Developer Firewalk Studios has now closed.

The hero shooter Concord is now available for PC and PlayStation 5.
