Actually, the BAFTA awards are all about films, but for some time the academy has also been on a toe in the lake of the video games and the 21st Awards are imminent. For this purpose, a survey was published in which the most influential titles of all time could be chosen from a given selection. The results are surprising.
On April 8, 2025, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards awards in various gaming areas. Otherwise, the academy is more known to mark films since 1948.
In the run -up to the award ceremony, the community was now allowed to speak and determine which video game is the most influential ever. The selection consisted of some heavyweights, some of which had a significant impact on the entire genres.
With Half-Life and Doom, true milestones for first-person shooters were to choose from and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time redefined our understanding of action adventures. Super Mario Bros. on the other hand, in every well-sorted jump-and-run collection and Dark Souls turned role-playing games upside down.
However, current titles were also found in the list, sometimes even from this year. For example, you could vote for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Baldur's Gate III was also available.
The final BAFTA list of the most influential video games ever is wonderfully mixed. For example, both half-life parts seem to be a bit strange, but with titles such as Minecraft, Skyrim, Doom and Super Mario 64 there are definitely some valid winners in the list.
At first glance, 1st place seems strange: Shenmue. No question, the game from Sega turned everything upside down in 1999, which we knew about the open world until then. Nevertheless, there is some tough competition in the list, which is why the first place does not seem undeserved, but still not 100 % suitable.
