News - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: improved versions for switch games planned

During the Nintendo Direct, the new "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" label was also presented. In fact, these are polished versions of old switch games.

The Nintendo Direct was nothing less than a 60-minute full control around the Switch 2, the upcoming Nintendo games, features and third party titles. One aspect jumped particularly in the eye, namely the new label "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition". The Switch 2 should be backward compatible in many games, but apparently quite a few titles should be drilled for the new console and then wear this label.

In fact, it means that switch games get a lot of new features in order to be able to wear this label. One example would be Super Mario Party Jamboree that, in addition to higher resolution and frame rate, also gets mouse control, speech recognition, camera functions and accordingly revised game modes and features. The revision is to be published in July 2025.

The same applies to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the forgotten Land or Metroid Prime 4. Last receives extended control via Maus Control as well as a quality mode with 4K60 and HDR as well as a performance mode in 1080p120. All games of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are also to be published both physically and digitally. Kirby and the forgotten country should even get new story content.

So it is not pure ports, but actually upgraded versions of the old games, which at least represents a good equivalent for the (not yet known) price of the upgrade packs.

If you already have one of the games on the old switch, you don't have to spend the money twice, because the upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition should be possible by upgrade. However, this becomes a fee, but so far it is not yet clear how much you have to pull for it. It is not entirely clear whether the new label will also apply to third party titles.
