News - Life is Strange: Double Exposure: Layoffs at developer Deck Nine

That could ruin Christmas for some people. Deck Nine, developer of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, announced layoffs over the weekend.

To call 2024 a good year for video games would in itself be a mockery, given that over 14,000 employees have been laid off and studios have closed in the industry. Shortly before Christmas, some employees once again have to fear for their jobs because Deck Nine announced an indefinite number of layoffs. The developers of Life is Strange: Double Exposure announced this via X/Twitter.

"Today we regret to inform you that we have to say goodbye to some of our team members," Deck Nine wrote in the announcement. "This was an extremely difficult decision and reflects the challenging times many companies in our industry are currently facing. We are grateful to each and every person who has worked with us, passionately and passionately to create transformative entertainment. very grateful."

This is not the first time that the studio has put part of its workforce on the street; staff was cut twice in the first half of the year. The studio has not yet stated which areas and how many employees are affected. There is no information about specific causes either, but it is obvious that sales of Life is Strange: Double Exposure remained below expectations.

Deck Nine joins a long list of game developers that have had to lay off staff this year. Most recently, Ubisoft was hit, which announced the end of XDefiant and in this context laid off almost 300 employees and closed two studios. We can only hope that the layoffs have finally come to an end.

Starting tomorrow, November 19th, the Switch version of Life is Strange: Double Exposure will be available via eShop.
